What would you do? DD's birthday question

Tomorrow is Lily's big day and we're not doing much. Chat Icon It's just going to be DH, DD & I celebrating. We're probably going to take her to the aquarium, then an early dinner, and cake at home. I was going to go get a few cupcakes at this place that's supposed to have really good cupcakes. I told DH this today and he was surprised I'm not making a cake. I just figured why would I make a whole cake for 3 of us? Really 2 of us, because DD isn't really going to eat much. I don't want to be eating cake every night for the next week. I already need to lose 10 lbs. What do you think I should do? I already feel guilty that our celebration is so small. It's times like this that I really miss living near family & friends. Chat Icon

I think you need a picture of the cake for the photo album, even if you end up throwing half of it out.

I think your idea of really good cupcakes sounds great!

I think your DH just wants a festive scene. They think b-day=cake. As a SAHM, I completely know where you are coming from. I would pick on a cake all day long. Now, I throw everything away.

I am in shock that it has been a year!!!

Please work hard on posting pics tomorrow...I want a big variety of Lily's first year!!

Thanks! It's one of those "cool" bakeries here in the city known for really good cupcakes. Hmmm...I'll talk to DH again about it later. I will post pictures either tomorrow, Sunday, or Monday. I'm really bummed that it's just us celebrating. We're going to do something with family when we're in NY in December too.

I think that maybe if you did make a cake and took pics of DD in front of it, even possibly eating some of it, it would make it seem for "festive" for you and you will have great pics to look back on and share with family.

I do agree, but you don't think pictures of her with a cupcake would have the same effect?

Hmmmm....

Cake for pics, have a slice and immediately the next morning have DH take the leftover to work, therefore, no temptationChat Icon

I wish that were an option. Her birthday is tomorrow, he flies out for work on Monday. I'll be stuck with a cake all week.
