What would you do if your child forgot their homework?
Would you call up a friend in a class and maybe make a photocopy of it if you couldn't get back into the school? Would you do this if your child forgot their homework on a regular basis, say once even twice a week every week?
I feel like getting the homework from a friend if you are able to is fine if you forget your homework once or twice, accidents happen, but I feel like if your child is always forgetting their homework you aren't really helping them by photocopying it for them every week so they don't get in trouble. Wouldn't it be more beneficial to them in the long run if they learn their lesson by getting missing homeworks, then maybe they will see that they don't want to get punished or bad grades and maybe start remembering the homework more? Also, what is making the kid sit and think, "hey, did I pack everything I need" when they know that whatever they forget that their mom will fix for them, so why do they care? And what is this teaching them for the future?
Just looking for some insight. I'm going through something like this right now and looking to see if I'm the only one who thinks this way.

Re: What would you do if your child forgot their homework?
For me, once or twice I'd be willing to call a friend. After that, I'd call the teacher & ask if she/he has any ideas - Can your child put a symbol of some sort on her/his desk or tie a bandanna on the backpack as a reminder to pack homework? Is there some other system that can be used?
Next step - after trying some kind of in-school prompting system for a while, I'd ask about doing homework in school during recess or making it up on the wekend -

Once or twice I'd call a friend. If it was happening on a regular basis, I'd ask for some help with prompting from the teacher.
After the once or twice, I no longer call. I made them call, which they hated.

Once and I will go to the school to get it.
Twice or more the homework doesn't get done and the consequences are faced in school.
I do this with my own children and suggest it to the parents of the kids in my class. If you (the parent) are always rushing in to fix the problem a lesson is never learned.

Re: What would you do if your child forgot their homework?
Ok, it's not my kid, but someone I help do homework with. The thing is, he has a sibling in the same grade with the same homework and the sibling always brings the homework home so it's so easy for him not to put any thought into bring home his homework when his sibling always has the homework. The mom photocopies the siblings homework every time the kid forgets his homework and wants me to do the same. I'm not okay with this because 1. the teacher and mother in me is telling me that this isn't teaching the kid anything and 2. when I go to the scanner/printer to do this, it's a slow printer so it takes up to 15 minutes then the kids fight, won't do their homework, or worse, cheat on their homework. This happened again yesterday for the 2nd time this week and I told the mother that I think I'm just going to let him look at the other kids book and write his answers on loose leaf to solve this problem. It's becoming so much work for ME every time he forgets his homework, meanwhile there are absolutely no consequences for him and he obviously isn't learning any lessons. It's sort of driving me crazy and I just wanted to get some insight from others.

Depends on how old my child was. If it was an elementary aged child, I would attempt to get the homework. Middle School or high school, its their responsibility.
My 1st grader has forgotten his homework a few times. Its a LOT to remember everything he needs to pack up at the end of the day.

My first grader has forgotten his homework a few times in the past and quite frankly, I am not going to run around like a loon. He will need to learn responsibility and I may sound harsh but I'm only passing on what I learned from my parents. He needs to know that mommy won't always be there to "fix" things.

This. My DS is a "homework forgetter." He always has the wrong book, wrong notes, whatever.
In elementary school we tried to help, the teachers checked on him, etc. While I never went so far as to copy the HW of a friend, we tried to help.
Now he's in middle school, and we are letting him flounder, on the teachers' advice. They feel that he's never going to learn the ropes unless he's given a little room to fail.
He's a smart kid, aces every test, etc, he just has a problem getting Thing A from Point X to Point Y.
