I know this guy is a jerk and did a really bad job- but I wouldn't have told them to take the stove away- I would have moved it out of the kitchen to the garage or something- b/c I would not want to feel like I owed him money

oh boy...this is a people's court episode. Yes, you owe him the money for the stove. No, he should not have spoken to you that way. He should have returned your calls.

I would let him sue you for it in small claims. I think you have a 50/50 shot at not having to pay him.

although he acted unprofessionally, the stove was his property and you really should have waited to hear back from him having the delivery people take it. at this point, they can resell it and make a profit.
