What would you do? (open house question)

There is a house in a nice neighborhood, in our price range, with reasonable taxes, and an open house this weekend.

I was checking out Zillow.com to see if I could find out any other information.

THIS was posted, attached to the Zillow listing.

we've been shopping for a house in the same neighborhood we live in for a while now and came across an open house listing on mlsli.com for this house so we were excited, so we went. we were half greeted by ******** the listing agent as it seemed she was in the middle of a conversation with someone on her bluetooth headset as she opened the door. we told her we had seen on the house on the web and had many other houses to see that day, so we were just going to take a quick look around to see if it fit our need.s she said no, you can not, i need to tell you the details of the house first. i said thank you, but we'd just like to take a look for now. she continued to press on in an argumentative tone stating that it was the owner's wish for her to us through the house. i again clarified that we did not need a tour, but instead just wanted to see the house quickly. i did not want to continue arguing over how we were going to see this house, so i went ahead and continued to look at the rest of the house as she told me not to. it was the weirdest display of open house etiquette i had ever witnessed. she finally stopped trying to tell me i couldn't see the house without her sales pitch but did at one point say, i guess you don't want to know the details of the house. i couldn't stand there and argue the principle so we just kept on looking from room to room, with her standing at our sides, steaming and staring at us. finally i thanked her for her time and proceeded to leave. at which point she snatched the print out of information on the house out of my hands and proclaimed, "you won't be needing this". appalling to think someone thinks she is doing a service for her. we liked the house too. a lot. but the experience left us feeling awful thinking we'd ever have to work with her again. we do not have a buyer's agent, so it would just be us dealing with her. i feel terrible for the owners. no wonder it's been on the market for for 9 months.

We do not have a buyers agent at this time.

Our time table for seeing the house would not be *that* tight, so we could probably deal with the agent's sales pitch .... but the idea of dealing with this agent does turn me off a bit ...

When we were going to some open houses, a few of them wanted the sales agent to walk through with us. I don't mind that - however, I think that this buyers agent was entirely unprofessional. I don't think u shouldn't go because of this remark though! Just remember - even though you have to deal with this person, you don't have to deal w/ her after u close on the house! If you like the house so much it is worth it!

Agents, you can have an agent work with you without having a buyers agent. When we were looking we had an agent show us a house and he asked if he could contact us on other similar homes, we said sure, but we are not doing an exclusive, and are not paying you as a buyers agent. If you go see the home with another agent, the bad agent wil have to give half of her commission to the other agent. I suggest you find a trustworthy agent and let them work for you.

Honestly, I think the agent was a little "much" but at the same time, I think the writer (the buyer) was a little rude too.

It's a typical - he said/she said. I'm not a realtor but if I was trying to offer info about the house to someone and they wanted to just traipse in and out I would be a little put-off. I did FSBO and if the girl I sold it to wouldn't listen to my info, I would have been annoyed, to be honest.

I'd still go - I'd listen to the pitch and that would be it.

I agree.

No need to argue. I would have been annoyed but would not have bothered arguing with the agent. Definitely still go!

The agent sounds like a real piece of work, but to be totally honest I would not allow anyone towalk around my home w/o an agent escorting them. She could have kept quiet and allowed them to view the house, and simply said the owners do not want anyone walking around w/o an escort.
