what would you do? Work related
I'm kinda stuck right now on what I should do.
I want to get pg this year, but i'm concerned about work.. Right now i work in a small crappy office about 45 minutes from home. The pay isnt terrible, and i love my coworkers, but all i would get is the NYS disability for maternity leave. So, we'd really have to start saving $ now to pay for our mortgage while i'm out of work. But i'd have the ability to come back after having a baby and change my hours around if I want to. And build up my sick time this year to carry over next yr as addt'l vacation time- hopefully my boss would let me use all my time for maternity leave. or I've been interviewing at bigger companies, closer to home, that pay your disability either in full or most of your salary..and i'd be saving money on gas and probably making a little more money. But i'd be starting out new, probably wouldn't get vacation right away, and i'd still want to get pg this year..So it would probably look really bad to start a new job and leave shortly after to have a baby.
I dont know what to do. Anyone have opinions?

A friend of mine did this and the job was ok with it. She got PG after 6 months of working there and they were very supportive towards her. Big companies usually have maternity leave policies I don't think there is a wait period to take advantage of that policy. Think about it, you are PG for 9 months so you will be working there for over a year by the time the baby comes if you wait a least three months after you start to TTC.

I would look around for a new job, while you stay where you are. Big companies don't necessarily have better maternity policies, so be warned. I would recommend staying where you are until you have a firm offer (in writing- depending on your field) of a new job.

Re: what would you do? Work related
I work for a very large company (Fortune 500) and the maternity leave there is only 2 weeks full pay and then just the regular disability.. I was expecting much better from a company of that size.
Just so you know, I got PG about 5 months after I started and it was no big deal. Most places will understand.

I am planning to do the same. I was looking for a new job when I became pg, I figured I would take advantage of my benefits at this company since I may not be eligible for them somewhere else. I am def looking for anohter job on leave, I loathe the job I have right now.
