What would you think?

So I send a draft of an email to my boss. He marks it up and adds explicit language he wants me to add to the draft and walks it to my office. I make those specific changes, addiing his exact language, and even go into his office to confirm my understanding of his changes (and to read his handwriting). I make his specific changes and send it out.

This morning he tells me he wants to see it before it goes out Chat Icon I told him I already sent it last night before I left the office. He tells me it wasn't ready and there was more he wanted to put in. Chat Icon

I mean, if my boss makes specific changes, gives it back to me and tells me he wants those changes added, I do it and get it out. We've never gone back and forth on something when he made specific changes and added specific languange and then I gave him ANOTHER draft of it with his specific corrections. He never said lets hold off, lets think about it, nothing. How the heck am I supposed to read his mind?

Re: What would you think?

Personally, if I am writing something that a partner needs to approve before it goes out, I send them updated drafts until they tell me it's perfect, send it out. Sometimes they will tell me "Once you make those changes, send it out." Otherwise, I send them updated drafts until they say it's right, send it out. Drafts in my office often go through several revisions before they are final.

HOWEVER, it seems that you had a different policy with this boss previously, so I can see why you sent it out. I'd not dwell on it. I'd give him a copy of what went out and ask if he'd like you to send any follow-up or clarification. Then, going forward, I'd just check with him before sending out revised correspondence, documents, etc.

Don't worry too much - this stuff happens! It was just a misunderstanding.

I agree with Kara.

Hindsight is 20/20 so going forward, draft, final draft, & draft againChat Icon

That's what I've done.

I'm just annoyed at my boss. He is so inconsitent and unclear. And then he blames everyone else Chat Icon
