What's a good gift for my friend who just announced she is expecting a baby?
  She is coming over this weekend and I want to get her a litle something special.

If she's superstitious, a great big hug.
If not, a card and some flowers. Gift card to their fav restaurant.
Or an IOU for when the baby's born for you to bring over homemade dinner for them

my friend got me the what to expect journal. It was cute and had so many things you could fill in and keep track of. It also gave info as you went along.... I ended up m/c but i still wrote in the book through that so id have it there for future.

I agree with thinking about what her superstitions may be. But if she is not superstitious, maybe a magazine subscription to Fit Pregnancy or another pregnancy magazine. Just a thought.

In fact I recieved the same thing from a good friend when I announced my pg.

a pregnancy journal/calendar or photo album for her to keep her sono pics and belly shots in ? A fun book (unless she has one) like the "Girlfriends Guide to Pregnancy" etc

I would get her a card and maybe some flowers. Or if you know she wouldn't mind baby items, maybe the "What to Expect When You're Expecting" book for a little stuffed animal. That's what my SIL gave us when we found out.
