Where are you going to buy this?
I find that supermarket "fresh" Mutz is totally expensive and isnt sitting in the water like real fresh--its wrapped in saran wrap.
Try an itailian deli or meat store.

Re: What's a good price for fresh mozz?
I would pay $20 for fresh mozz
Seriously though...I agree with the above poster - I would hit a specialty store/pork store for fresh mozz. I usually go to A&S Pork Store and it's around $6.99 a pound *I think*.

I agree. Lombardi's Market sells really good fresh mozz. not sure of the price, but I bet if you call they will tell you.

If that's from King Kullen- don't get it- I bought it last week- definitely try apork store or Italian specialty store.

I would recommend Iavarone's or Uncle Guiseppe's. Iavarone makes it fresh every day, it is sooo good.

Re: What's a good price for fresh mozz?
I usually pay $6-$10 a lb, but I found it in Price Club (costco) for 3.99 a pound wrapped in the saran wrap, the big round ball of it. It was great, tasted good and was so cheap.

This is what I was going to say. Usually around $7-$8/lb. No offensive to the other poster but I bought it at Costco, wrapped in saran and it wasn't as good as from a specialty store.

Re: What's a good price for fresh mozz?
I would only buy fresh mozz from Uncle Guisseppe's or Lombardi's market. Its made fresh everyday. I don't trust the supermarkets fresh mozz

I would pay more for good stuff, fresh mutz is my weakness.....
On LI, A&S or T&F are the best, IMO, of course.

Re: What's a good price for fresh mozz?
Interesting to learn about the prices. I live in Westchester so some of those stores aren't accessible, but thank you! I'm going to try our Italian deli or Trader Joes

Go to Salpino in Seaford on Merrick Road. The MOOTZ is to DIE for!!! Expensive (around 8 a lb?) but you get what you pay for.

SO TRUE!!!
If you do, after a few hours it starts tasting like the crap you buy from Waldbaums or Stop/Shop. EW!
