What's on your home remodel/project list?

Just curious, what was the condition of your home when you bought it?

And what have you done so far since you moved in, and what's on your to do list?

My home is in move in condition but needs updating.

Done or doing:
- Renovate kitchen and bathroom
- Replace windows
- Replace garage doors
- Refinished floors
- Add more lighting

To Do in next 1-5 years:
- Replace stoop
- Add patio
- Replace side door
- Finish basement
- Finish or reinsulate attic

doing:

-our upstairs hallway bathroom

to be done in near future:
-basement
-landscaping in front yard

to be done in a couple of years:
-pool/deck/landscaping in backyard.

We moved in less than a year ago and we haven't done much. We are in the same boat as you, it was move in ready but needs some updating. So far we have:

-Redone the lawn, turning and planting new seed
-painted every room
-steam washed all floors and rugs (rugs were brand new but I still hate them)

Within the next year:
-fence
-replace all brass and gold hardware in bathroom
-hardwood floors

Within 3 years-
-remodel of kitchen
-remodel of bath
-new roof, siding and windows
(this is the year we are planning on hitting the lottery clearly)

My house is pretty much done, but over the next year...

I would like to replace my doors. I have a black front door and see thru sidelights that I can't STAND! I would love to change it to a pretty brown one with sidelights you can see in!

and then my back door is a 6 foot slider. I want to change it to french doors.

Aside from that, we need a new couch.

We moved in about 3 months ago and so far we've:

-painted kitchen
-replaced oven and dishwasher
-replaced carpet and painted basement
-painted both bedrooms
-replaced all the ugly gold doorknobs
-replaced all the bathroom and kitchen hardware
-steam cleaned the bedroom carpets
-painted all the closet doors (and replaced a few)

Still on the To-Do list:
-replace fridge
-new countertops and floor in kitchen
-paint livingroom/entryway
-crown molding in kitchen and livingroom
-replace floors in all 3 bathrooms
-paint all 3 bathrooms
-replace sink in 2 bathrooms
-put new flooring in the laundry area

It's a work in progress but everytime we do a project it makes the place look 1000 times better!

We've done A LOT since we moved in in 2008 (new floors, kitchen, paint, etc). The list of what we want to still do is pretty long too

-Foyer: create storage under the stairs, get a big light/chandelier
-Garage: redo floors, patch big holes, paint, new shelving
-Guest Bath: frame out mirror
-Master Bath: frame out mirrors, new decor, storage cabinet, new tile in shower
-Master bed: new carpet, closet system for walk-in
-LR: new sofa & other furniture
-Den/office: re-paint (I hate the color in there now)

Our house was a flip so everything was new when we moved in. The only thing that the contractor didn't do was landscaping and fence.

Within the first 6 months the finished basement flooded. We had to pull up all the brand new carpeting that was down there. We had the foundation sealed. We removed trees and brush in the backyard, put in a dry well, regraded the entire back and side yard, seeded and re-seeded the lawn.

Within the last month we installed a new floor in the basement and we just ordered a new sectional and big screen tv.

The only things left to do are the fence and patio in the backyard and then we're done. Hopefully!

I'm in my co-op for 13 years.

My project list :
replace pull down attic stairs.
clean out attic.
re-grout kitchen floor.
take my Persian rug to be professionally cleaned.

My wish list :
gut redo of bathroom (we only have one ! )
renovate my kitchen to include a washer/dryer, more cabinet storage.
I might consider taking down the wall between kitchen and dining room, but then I lose storage and counter space.

I have been in my home since 2007 and it was "move in ready" I guess, but after living there we started remodeling.... This is my forever home!

Past projects:

New siding and windows and doors
Gutted master bath
Gutted kitchen
Gutted family room
New banister inside
Added CAC
Added crown molding in all rooms
Removed all rugs (except master) and polished/stain floors
New rug in master
Painted (twice, lol)

Future projects:
Re-do basement (finished but ugly)
New fence
Paver driveway
New landscaping
Gut main bathroom

I am in my house 14 years and my list never ends.

We've pretty much redone the entire house. Just working on one of the "last" things right now.

We are in the process of a total gut/ redo of our downstairs bathroom. It's looking great so far...can't wait to post pics when it's done.

But yet...I can still come up with a huge list of things I want to do. In 14 years, my taste has changed and I want to redo some things.

We have been in our house since 2004 and we still have a huge list. Our house was as is and had no Sheetrock, flooring, interior doors, trim, tile or cabinets when we bought it so we did all of that before moving in.

So far we have-
Built a large shed, greenhouse and chicken coop
New fence
Added bluestone patio and walkways
Irrigation system
New front porch
Landscaped front and backyard
Kitchen Reno on a shoestring budget
Finished 1/3 of basement
Remodeled guest room and attached bath
All New wood flooring
New light fixtures in every room
Some new windows, new sliding door, skylights
Refinished stairs and new handrails
Custom built ins in office/ craft room
Renovated SDs room
Upgraded electric
Added insulation
Changed some siding
Installed a pellet stove
Master bedroom closets with custom closet systems
New master bathroom
We have painted every room twice


we plan to
Install new driveway
Finish laundry room in basement
Install new flooring in existing finished basement
Renovate 3rd bathroom
Finish siding
Change the remaining windows
New front door
Outdoor shower
Outdoor kitchen


We are also in the process of renovating our second home, we just finished painting and redecorating next we are renovating the kitchen.

It's an ongoing process in both homes and some of the things we are doing or have done I couldn't have even pictured when we first bought the house. I'm fine with doing everything a little at a time.

We moved in almost 3 years ago

Have done:

-Combined 2 bdrms into 1 big master
-2nd bedroom made bigger
-All hardwood flooring sanded and stained since some was carpeted & pickled
-new carpeting in bedrooms
-Den was carpeted and painted
-Put in a patio
-installed inground sprinklers
-updated all electric
-all new doors and hardware
-re-insulated
-painted all finished rooms
-re-paved driveway

Will do:

-both bathrooms
-refinish basement
-update guest bedroom
-PVC fence
-siding

way down the line:

-kitchen but it's in pretty good shape
-Knock down wall in den to make bathroom bigger and install french doors to patio

We moved into our house in September, everything needed updating! So far we've:

-Redone 2 baths
-Finished laundry room in basement
-New carpet in den/guest bedroom
-New tile in foyer, powder room
-Ripped up carpet, sanded and stained floors in LR/DR/hall/stairs/3 BRs
-Removed 13 trees total from property
-Removed all bushes/shrubs from front of property
-Installed recessed lighting in LR & master BR
-Painted whole house
-Installed alarm

Things still left to do:
-Kitchen remodel
-Powder room remodel
-New windows
-New front & garage door
-Redo sidewalk, driveway, and walkway
-Install fence
-Replace shrubs/bushes we pulled out from the front of the property
-New siding
-Level backyard and put down sod
-Convert from oil to gas
-New banisters
-New light fixtures throughout house
-New wall AC units
-New (indoor) doors


So much to do!!

So far we have done the following:

New electric
New roof
New oil tank
We had a slider and deck put in where there was previously just a window

The rest is mainly cosmetic and will happen in due time:

New flooring in basement
New flooring in bathroom
Add a dishwasher
New driveway


Possibly convert our shower to a Tub/shower
Possibly get a patio

I would love to get my kitchen renovated but I don't think we will ever be able to afford it. I'd love to have a carpenter build us/install new cabinet doors and have everything professionally painted so it looks nice at least. (the old owners painted the cabinets but never primed anything so it's chipping in certain spots )
