Whats on your nursery windows?

Do you have blackout shades? blinds?

I'm trying to figure out what to do with the windows - its a bright room (southern exposure) so I'm thinking I may need some type of black out material, though I was hoping to do wooden plantation blinds with drapes or a valance.

TIA!

We have 2" white wooden plantation blinds with a valence on top. I love the look, and thankfully, Andrew never really needed a dark room to sleep because while they block out the sun, it's still pretty light in their during the day for naps.

We have blinds (regular, not blackout) and curtains over that. It blocks out most of the light during the day but I don't think the light really effects her sleep anymore anway.

Lisa I have 2" wood plantation blinds and long silk dupioni drapes that have a thinker backing, but they are not black out curtains. Lauren never really needed them like Andrew.

thats good to know! I was afraid the baby would be waking with the sun.

maybe I won't worry about black outs then - thanks!

I have room darkening shade that dont help, so yes i went white trash in desperation last week and taped black garbage bags to his windows.. He is so damn sensitive to EVERTHING.. Not that it helps, nothing helps him sleep. But the dark is better than the blaring light... Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Whats on your nursery windows?

I've only had a valance on for the past 2 years, the light never bothered my son.

We did put regular blinds up last week though cause now that he gets out of bed and likes to look out the window, he will watch us if we are outside, in the garage, etc.... its just a minor deterrent Chat Icon

horizontal blinds and sheer curtains (light blue). I was never a fan of just a valance. the window feels naked to me Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Whats on your nursery windows?

We are southern facing and we have miniblinds. It is not dark in there, and I didn't want it to be pitch dark, becuase I didn't want a bit of sinlight to wake them up. I wanted them to sleep in light and dark. I know with me I used to need it sooo dark to sleep, but since we moved into the house and the window is not fully covered I don't need it.

Who knows that just may be my crazy mentality.

I had Roman shades with a valance for a long time. The Roman shades had a liner but didn't block too much sun. As spring started to approach - he started waking up as the sun rose (last year we didn't seem to have this issue - he woke up all night long so it wasn't the sun). We put up black out shades underneath and ahhh - so much better - he actually sleeps until 7:30/8ish some days since adding these!!! Much better than 5:30am!!

Re: Whats on your nursery windows?

We kept the white mini-blinds we put up when we moved in and added a valance that matches his bedding and blue drapes, although the drapes are about as thick as a thin bed sheet...

her room is not as bright as ours, we seem to have more of the sun in the back of the house, so she has regular verticals and just a balloon valance.
