What's the best hotel/room type to book in Disney World with 1 year old?

We were going to stay at the Grand Floridian, but the cost for a one bedroom suite is REALLY high there! I love the idea of the easy monorail access, though.

What do you recommend? I just need a room with an area where my son can sleep separately from us for naps and earlier bedtime. DH and I just don't want to feel like we have to whisper and tip toe and stuff with DS sleeping in the same room as us...

TIA!

I wouldn't go with any of the regular hotels if you need a separate room. You should look into the Disney villa hotels - if you want to be on the monorail see if there is anything at Bay Lake Towers. Otherwise the Wilderness lodge Villas while not on the monorail are at least close to the MK.

There are several other villa locations as well.

I'd look into the DVC ones. Such a better value, and are very nice. We went to Saratoga Springs in January. We got a 2 bedroom suite. It was gorgeous and perfect for a 3 year old at 4 month old. Fully stocked kitchen, large rooms, laundry, large tub, dishwasher etc. Just like being at home. Grounds were gorgeous. Location was walking distance to Downtown Disney, and bus service to other parks. All parks were about a 10 minute ride. Also a huge plus for us was all the pools were the walk in infinity pools, perfect for little ones. We have decided this we will only be going back to this place in the future.

We stayed at Wilderness Lodge a year ago, upgraded to a suite, and spent a ton of money on the room. You couldn't even compare that room to the one we got at Saratoga Springs for a lot less money.

We are DVC members and have stayed in both a one bedroom and a studio. When DD was 15 months we stayed in the studio at Saratoga Springs. Although it lacked a full kitchen it was plenty of room for the 3 of us. We put the PNP in the alcove near the bathroom. This way she was separate from us and we could still watch tv. We didn't upgrade to a one bedroom until DD was 2 or 3,when she could sleep in a bed. For the amount of time that you actually spend in the room, the studio is the way to go especially when they are that little.

ETA: The rooms at Saratoga Springs also have balconies so that could also be a hang out spot when DC goes to bed.
