What's the best way to get to the George Washington Bridge from Long Island (via LIE)
We went to PA over Forth of July weekend and I took the Clearview Expwy thru the Bronx (no idea what the road's name was, just followed signed to GWB).
Is there a better way?!?!?

We do this all the time. GW bridge to Cross Island (stay in the right lane on the bridge). From the x-island take the LIE or Northern Blvd. depending upon where you want to go.

Me personally...I try to avoid the cross bronx whenever possible! I take LIE to Northern State/Grand Central Pkwy to Triboro Bridge. Follow the signs for "Manhattan" over the bridge to get to the Harlem River Drive. Take Harlem River Drive to GWB.

go straight thru manhattan!
it's a dead zone in the summer and we avoided so much traffic when ken was in kessler by taking the city - a lot of 'tourists' are afraid of driving thru the city - it's awesome! love it!

This is the way I go too......unless its rush hour its usually clear of traffic.

This is my trip back and forth from "home" to "home" for the past ten years....
I don't avioid the Cross Bronx and my natural route would be Northern/Cross Island or Southern/Cross Island to the Throgs or Clearview. Though, the Throgs has one lane closed so on the weekends it adds time to your trip.
If the Cross Bronx is bad, I do one of two things. One, stay on Northern to Grand Central to TriBoro Bridge. At that point I either do Major Deegan or go through the City up the Harlem River Drive to the mouth of the GW (right under the apts.). OR, a sneak trick if the Major Deegan is good and you find out the Cross Bronx is bad when you are on the Whitestone or Throgs bridges is to take the Bruckner "south" and then just take the Major Deegan up to the GW. It looks like you are taking a long way but you aren't when the Cross Bronx is jammed.
If all else fails, I go through the City. I try to travel no later than 10-11 am and leave no later than 3-4 pm.

u are going to northern pa i assume? We jut went to Giants stadium on Friday for Bon Jovi and the traffic was a mess. We took throgs neck to Gw bridge ro NJ tpke.. a cpmplet nightmare! If youare going western pa then its verrazano to staten island xpy to njtpke to pa tpke
Hate getting our of ny, but i will never take the GW bridge again EVER. We sat there for an hour both ways without moving!

This is pretty much how we"accidentally" came home. Ont he way home we were stuck in traffic (at 10pm) due to a car fire on lower level on GWB.
Yes- we were going to/from Northern PA- Milford area. We're planning another trip, and want to avoid traffic in the Bronx. Friends asked (after the fact) if we had been on the Cross Bronx, I said yes, he said "Oh avoid that." but didn't tell us how to.
Thanks for the advise-
Oh, I am all for driving thru Manhattan, I'm not bothered by that option too!

Yes, take the GCP to the Triboro to the Harlem River Drive- absolutely. Also, never take the Express on route 80. Take the local- the traffic is ALWAYS less.

I go Throgs Neck to the Bruckner to the Major Deegan to the GWB. (or you could go Triboro to Major Deegan to GWB). I hate the Cross Bronx and avoid it at all costs.

Yes this is what we do, cause I hate going through the city. I would take the clearview to the Throgs Neck. I also hate the LIE and would do the Northern State to GCP to clearview.
I call LIE, LIT (LI Trafficway).

ITA with both of these ideas!! im from queens, and live right off the throgs neck bridge... you couldn't pay me enough to take the x-bronx....

AVOID THE CROSS BRONX!! TRUST ME!!
-Take Grand Central to Triboro Bridge
- Stay Right to Manhattan
- Pay Toll then stay right exit #2 Harlem River Drive.
- Once you exit turn right at the light and follow signs to HRD
- Stay Left to GW Bridge.
