Whats the best way to lose weight??
Since I got married, I gained around 35lbs. I cannot lose the weight that I put on, and I feel gross. I just finished eating at the outback, and I really dont feel good about what I just ate.
I know weight watchers is a great plan, and I have been on it before. I just cannot stick to it though. After 2 weeks of writing down everything I eat...I get bored and dont want to do it anymore - even if it is working.
i try to eat low fat foods, and if im going to snack I have the 100 calorie snack packs. My problem is that we dont always cook at home and we go out a lot or we get take out.
I know I need to lose the weight....I just need something that works.
So if you can just let me know what works for you - that would be great....If its not a set diet like Atkins or weight watchers, let me know what you do and what you eat.....
I excersize already - which is good. I walk my dog probably 5 to 10 times a day - so I am happy we have the dog for that.
I also walk with my friend at least 1 mile a day but we havent done it in a while because it has been too hot out.
Please help me Scott

Re: Whats the best way to lose weight??
they only thing that truley works for me- is a modifed version of atkins- I eat fruit and veggies and protein- like chicken and fish- egg whites with low fat cheese
not steak and bacon
I try to stay away from those "diet" products- they aren't real food and don't fill you up- and I drink TONS of water with lemon-

Re: Whats the best way to lose weight??
If you want to lose weight long term (which I think you do) then you can't really cut anything out of your diet - you have to eat healthy foods and exercise regularly. Following some sort of a program is a great way to start - but if you find you eventually lose interest, it might be worth it to see a nutritionist for a more personalized plan. And maybe go with a personal trainer at a gym.

Re: Whats the best way to lose weight??
I don't like Gyms - I have joined in the past and wouldnt go. I like walking, so I try to do that everyday. Just got back from walking 6 blocks with the dog, I am going to try to do that 5 times to day.
I have to go to the fruit and veggie market today to get some stuff...Right now all I have are bananas. Thanks, Scott

Re: Whats the best way to lose weight??
Scott, I just started Oprah's bootcamp and I lost 8 lbs so far.
It is similar to what Beth is doing, lean protein, veggies, fruit - no processed carbs - the "white stuff".
She says to stay off all bread, rice (even brown) for the first month and then reintroduce only WHOLE GRAINS after that.
The biggest part of the plan is exercising 6 days a week. She said something that stuck with me. "There is no easy way to lose weight. If there were, I would own it, and it would be one of my favorite things."
I gained a lot of weight with Atkins. I'd lose 8 lbs, go off and gain 10. I am at my all time heaviest now and I really blame a lot of it on that "low carb craze". I'm determined to take it off.
Oprah's boot camp
If you want to talk more about it FM me!

Re: Whats the best way to lose weight??
if you really want to lose weight and keep it off, you cannot cut out food groups or certain foods you love. Eventully, you will binge on that forbidden food. You can eat everything in moderation which is the problem for most people.
The formula is simple for sustained weight loss:
eat less, move more.

Yep.
Calories in vs. calories burned.

Can you give me a menu of what you would normally eat on a given day?

I agree. It's not about cutting out a whole food group - it's about cutting out certain foods that are particularly high in sugar. I'm not a pasta, rice, potato girl and I have no issue switching to whole grain bread, so for me, I'm not missing anything!

Re: Whats the best way to lose weight??
This is what I follow, it has worked for my SIL and her friend who lost about 20pds from this.
Breakfast: Myoplex proteins shake w/ 1 tblsp of PB, Unsalted
3 hrs later: 3 egg whites Or Oatmeal
3 hrs later: LUNA bar w/Yogurt or Fruit
3 hrs later: 3 oz grilled w/Vegtable
3 hr later: DINNER 3 oz of grilled ckn or turkey meat/burger w/salad.......dressing Balsamic Vinegar and a tsp of olive oil. Dinner should be no later than 8.
Remember: -Water, water, water and NO Salt!
So far, 3/4th wk in, I did lose 4pds and understand its a slow process. Also its means I lost a pd a wk which is also going to be easier to keep off. I also workout 4x/wk doing cardio and weights. On weekends, I try to enjoy some foods that I cant eat throughout the wk and try not to overdue it either.
i get discouraged and wish it was faster and overnite but keep my head up and continue to do it knowing it is a better way to eat and that the excercise makes me feel better too. i also turned 30 this yr and I feel my body changed and its not easy like it used to be.
GL and you will find something that will work and the results will keep you going.
ETA: I also pre cook everthing for wk or for the day prior. It helps not to look for food since its already there. I make the eggwhites the nite prior and cook ckn for the week so I have it at work and home.

Smiley D- what is it that you eat after the Luna bar, before Dinner? Is that grilled vegetables? I was thinking of following this but i wasn't sure about that before dinner meal. Also does Myoplex taste good?
thanks

Yes, grilled ckn and a vegetable ex: brocolli, spinach
It is before dinner but happens to also work well since its also pre workout for me. It sounds odd but works.
Yes, Myoplex is good. My fav one!

Re: Whats the best way to lose weight??
The best way for me was to watch my portions and go to a personal trainer. It was expensive but worth it if you feel like nothing else works.

Re: Whats the best way to lose weight??
I would watch the sugar. Some of those 100 calorie packs have lots of sugar...good for a desert...but not good if you are feeling hungry and need a good snack.
I also think you need to up your workout. Walking is great...but you need to raise your heart rate and add strength training to build muscle in order to see any real difference. I'm not saying spend hours in the gym..but maybe walk for 3 minutes, run/jog for one.

Re: Whats the best way to lose weight??
I definitely think you need to up the cardio. Like someone else said, walking is good - but it is only going to do so much if you're not elevating your heart rate. Maybe bring some light weights with you when you walk.
I find for me, the best thing that works is being organized. I really try to balance out my protein and carbs throught out the day. Like if I have a bagel for breakfast, then I try to have a very low-carb lunch and dinner. I am consciously trying to keep my carbs somewhat low, but definitely not eliminating them. I have also stopped eating at least 3 hours before bedtime, and I swear it is making a world of difference!
good luck!!

Re: Whats the best way to lose weight??
With everything that has been going on with my dad I havent had a chance to think about dieting.
But now...I really need to start, because I have gained soo much weight and I just feel disgusting.
I have no idea what plan to go on, I have been on mostly all of them already.
I was thinking of just eating egg whites....Lean meats, fruits, veggies, and salad. It is probably a modified version of Oprahs boot camp.
I hate diets, and I dont know which one to go on.
I just came back from walking with my dog and I feel great, but now I'm hungry and I have no idea what I should eat. We have no food in the house really either......Hmmmm. Scott
