What's the deal with Disney DVDs?

I'm looking for some DVDs for my DD for Christmas, specifically Cinderella. But it seems like very few places are carrying it. On Amazon, it's only available from a secondary seller.

What gives? On the Disney website it says the Special Edition DVD is currently unavailable but I could have sworn I saw in the stores a couple of years ago.

Has anyone seen it around? Why is it so hard to buy some of the older Disney movies?

the disney vault - disney only releases movies for a set period of time then they go in the vault - usually rereleased every 7 years

Oh...that's weird but I guess it's a marketing ploy? It looks like Beauty and the Beast and Snow White are out now but not Cinderella.

Hmm...I guess my best bet is to buy through a third party seller--has anyone done this?

Darn you Disney...way to make my holidays even harder! I'm trying to give you my money!!! Chat Icon

Be careful....We just purchased Little Mermaid and Cinderella through a second party and they were both copies of the original dvd set up to look like a real disney dvd...the movies work and the price was reasonable and my kids won't know the difference so in the end I am okay with it but it does slightly annoy me inside!

Be really careful, there are ALOT of fakes out there and people still jack up the price! I have my DD watch the Little mermaid on youtube, lol.

Yup, Beauty and the Beast is one of the current available ones, as is Snow White and Sleeping Beauty. Too bad we don't need those! Chat Icon

Ugh, this is what stresses me out. This whole thing is so annoying!

Do you mind telling me the name of the vendor just so I don't buy from them? Thank you!

Chat Icon digital download of those unavailble to purchase

HD quality no less

But yeah I'm thinking of finally joining the Disney Movie club. I have WAY too much disney and since we always buy the 3 disc pack I think it would make sense to join up. We buy the DVD, Blu Ray, Digital versions so I can put it on our mobile media (itouch, phone, PS3, PSP) and then also watch it on TV (PS3) as well as give one to my aunt who has just a DVD player.

ETA: don't bother asking me how. I just tell hubby "We need _____ for AJ" and either its on our TV the next day or its in the mail box by the end of the week. Chat Icon
