Ann Taylor is higher end.
LOFT is more casual.
It's almost like what Gap is to Banana Republic.
Also, Ann Taylor carries wedding apparal. And LOFT carries maternaty.
ETA: I also believe LOFT is supposed to be geared towards the younger customers.

Ann Taylor is more expensive and more professional clothes- suits etc.
Loft is more casual and more youthful.
Sadly, they discontinued the maternity line about 2 months ago.
