What's the difference between working moms and working dads?
Ever since McCain announced Palin as his VP pick, there's been talk about how (some people think) she shouldn't go for this job because she has 5 kids and/or a special needs baby.
My questions: Would you/people who say this feel the same if a man with 5 kids, including a special needs baby, was running instead? And how do we balance our desire for gender equality with our instincts, which are telling us that while we generally support working moms, maybe she has too much on her plate?

My instincts are not telling me that...

No, the same things wouldn't be said about a man b/c in this country as much as we like to act like there is gender equality the assumption always is that the woman will be handling the bulk of the childcare.
As to the second half of the question, I personally feel that people have to stop acting like the way they live is the best way for everyone and recognize that what works for my family may not work for yours. As long as we both have happy families at the end of the day it doesn't really matter how we got there.

Re: What's the difference between working moms and working dads?
With the exception of giving birth and breastfeeding, I don't see what a mom can do that a dad can't?
Some men are taught to be helpless when it comes to children- or automatically take the back seat to the mom.
Some moms take the front seat and delegate to the dad- and he accepts that role.
Some people are completely 50/50.
Some families, the dad is more "maternal" than the mom. In fact, my friend's dad said that he breastfed the children, since the mom would fall asleep and forget and he woudl take the children and put them on her to nurse while she slept through it.
Every family is different. And dads just like moms, learn on the job.
