What's the going rate fOr babysitting in your home?
I may watch a friend of a friend's child in my own home. What is the going rate? I just don't want to charge her unfairly at the same time I need it to be worth my while.
Thank you!

Re: What's the going rate fOr babysitting in your home?
I think this can vary a lot is her child the only child in the house? meaning you don't have your kids at home and watch no one else? is it a full day half a day? will you provide food.
my friend goes through this debate a lot when people ask her to babysit because she never know what she should charge.
some people say you can charge a decent amount because its one on one time but I always argue this because its not she has her own kids she is watching.
Some people are willing to pay a lot but I personally would never pay more than what I pay now for daycare and would want to pay less since I would be able to claim any of it on taxes.
I pay $323 a week for a child up to 18 months for 5 days a week 8-6 for me to go to someone in their home I would not want to probably pay more than $250 a week for same amount of time.

I personally think that is extremely low. $250 for 50 hours, in my opinion that's not nearly enough unless you are doing someone a huge favor.
I think I'd pay based on whatever hourly rate you think is fair. probably around $15 per hour for 1 child.

see to me that seems a crazy amount that means to pay someone at their house watching my kid tax free full time which would mean minimally 9 hours a day for 5 weeks I would be paying this person $675 for one kid. why would I ever do that when I can pay much less at a daycare center or in-home licensed daycare.
like I said I know some people are willing to pay that kind of money but I personally wouldn't and I cant believe I would be the only one.

I guess I see it more as a nanny situation, which some people prefer over a daycare center.
maybe that's not what OP meant and I'm just confused. lol but it sounded like she would be watching someone's kid, one on one.

What's the going rate fOr babysitting in your home?
It would be her child plus my own. I was thinking $150 for 2 days 7:30-5:30. Is that reasonable?

If that is a number you are comfortable with the I think not is fine.
I was paid $50/day to watch triplets for 2.5 hours a day with my son in tow. When I was using an in home daycare I was paying $7/hour for 1. But they had many other children. Being as it would be in your home it is not a nanny situation. Also establish before hand what will happen regarding meals and such. Will you be allowed to take the child out, let's say for errands or will you be expected to stay home for the duration of the day? It can be rough doing this for friends as expectations can vary. Will you be paid if they are out sick or on vacation?

I used to pay a SAHM $10 an hour to watch my DS a few hours a week, she also watched a few other kids in her home too.

I bring my DD to a baby sitters house that watches a few other children as well. She charges us $7 per hour. I use her for 4 days a week roughly 34-36 hours and I usually give her $250 a week which a little extra than what the hours add up to.

I pay my babysitter, a 20 year old college student, who watches my 3 year old daughter at my house $12/hour.
Most times im home (work from home) but i may run an errand and she does date nights.

What's the going rate fOr babysitting in your home?
I have looked into many daycare options. I have seen about 10 places and called a bunch from licensed family daycares, to big centers, to babysitters who watch children in their home and are not licensed. I was looking for a 9 month old. For someone to come to my house was way too expensive. So that was not an option for us. I found daycare centers to be 300-400 a week. Family licensed daycares about 250-325 a week. I contacted a few people who are not licensed and did it in their homes. One woman was $12 an hour. Another was $400 a week. I was looking more for a daily rate. We found one woman we like who does it in her home and also watches 3 other children for $300 a week. We like her but have to take into consideration that we can't write her off on our taxes. Personally I would pay $50-$60 a day for one child in someone else's home who is not licensed. If it is only 2 days a week maybe they will be wiling to pay more. You have to figure out if its really worth it for you. I feel like if you are watching multiple kids like 2 separate families it would be more worth your while. But of course a lot more work. Also there is a FB page called childcare on long island if you wanna get an idea of what people are charging. GL!

I would charge $60 a day max. Keep in mind that licensed providers charge $50-$60 out of their home. You aren't licensed, and you have your own child to tend to as well.
