Whats the longest you have waited to get an answer on an offer you put in?

I put in an offer last week on a house.....the realtor called me 4 times a day for like 4 days after the offer...asking me to sign the binder/lead papers, then with questions about my pre-approval, credit scores ect......the lady was driving me nuts meanwhile, she still hadn't countered yet....of course each time i talked to her she would tell me that another offer came in so by the end of the week i still had no answer but there were supposibly 4 other offers by this time.....personally I feel like she is full of crap because this house has been for sale for a while so what are the odds of me making an offer and then 4 other peolple....so finally 3 days ago she calls me with a counter of $2,000 lessChat Icon .....I refuse to go up because i don't feel the house is worth much more and I pretty much felt that that counter was ridiculous.....maybe if she came back with a better counter i would have went up a little.....so she tells me she will get back to me and hear we are 3 days later and i've heard nothing. so do you think i should move on...I really feel that there are no other offers and that this person is playing games. Are they supposed to call you back either way? She drives me nuts to fll out her forms and them she just doesn't call back...

I am so sorry that you're dealing with all of this.... Chat Icon I agree, I think it sounds a littlefishy that all of a sudden she has all of these offers on the table!

My advice would be to give her a call one more time to follow-up if you really love this house. Are you working with a RE agent? Good luck!

Is she the listing agent or an agent that you are dealing with?

I would call her back. Sometimes it does take sellers forever to get back to people (if they are trying to calculate money and whatnot) but I am constantly in touch when offers are put in....even just to say "I am still waiting to hear back from the sellers"

Good luck!

She is the listing agent.

Oh the joys of making offers! It's not unusual for days to pass before hearing about an offer. We noticed that if multiple parties are involved as sellers (like in an estate) the wait can be even longer. The most important things to keep in mind are how long the house has been on the market and what kinds of price reductions it has gone through. Don't worry about multiple offers, especially if the house has been on the market for a while. Agents will always try to get as much out of you as possible. The more the house sells for, the higher their commission. Remember that a good final purchase price is 5-8% below the original asking. If the house is an estate, you can be more aggressive and even get the house for more than 10% off asking.

I once put in an offer, and refused to go up to meet their counter since it was really still too high.

We told them that our offer would still stand and two weeks later they came back and met us at our original offer $20,000 below.

We ended up not accepting due to problems with the house, but I wouldn't lose hope yet.

I would call the listing agent just to say - do you know if they accepted another offer? What's the deal?
