What's the point of an office grab bag....
When everyone gives out individual gifts anyway!!!????
This is my first year here and within my department, all the secretaries and paralegal's (6 of us) decided to do a grab bag. I was told that they did this last year too and it worked out well and was done so that everyone doesn't have to go and get gifts for everyone else. Isn't that the whole point??? You get one person. You buy a gift for that one person and you are done.
Well, we are exchaning gifts today at lunch but I came in this morning and my desk is overloaded with gifts from everyone!!! They are just small things but still, now what do I do??? Do I rush out tonight and get gifts for everyone? I really appreciate the gesture, don't get me wrong it's just I wasn't expecting this. What would you do??? I really wasn't planning on buying anything else and it's not really in my budget to buy anything more. If I had know, I would have planned better.
There is one other new person this year and she is upset by this too and not sure what she's going to do either.

 EEk, what a corner to be backed into. So annoying when stuff like this happens! Well, I would talk to the other new girl and decide to do the same thing. If gifts aren't in your budget, I would make a lighthearted comment about the gifts and them being unexpected... and offer to treat the office to lunch or something after the holiday craziness winds down. I always feel uncomfortable when things like this happen

This is what happened to DH also. I have to get another couple of gifts so he can give them to coworkers who gave him presents. I thought I was done...He works with all women and I know they like to bake so I am getting them all silpats. I have BBB coupons and they will be about $12 a piece so it is not that bad.

this happen to my mom & my sister (thank goodness my company doesn't do this).
Its annoying cause now you have to go out and buy a batch of little things.

Honestly - I wouldn't do anything. They'll get the hint then that a grab bag means ONE gift. Especially if there are two of you there.
That happened to me one year. A co-worker bought me something and I didn't have anything for them. I didn't go out and get one, and the next year I didn't get anything. If there was a grab bag, then I would have gotten something.

id probably run and get scratch offs for everyone or something.
i agree - i hate when people do that.
BUT - if you do nothing you shouldnt feel bad. you followed the rules and bought your grabbag gift. i dont think anyone will think bad about you not getting small token gifts for everyone else.

This happens in my office too. I usually bring in some little christmas containers with candy or something homemade.
This year I bought a bunch of the dollar mini loaf pans at Michael's and my sister and I (we both work here) are making Banana streusal bread for everyone.
