eta. oops forgot mine...

Peeling the linoleum off of the kitchen floor before we figured out what we were going to put downChat Icon .

In the morning I heard screaming. My kids were in the middle of the kitchen floor stuck on the equivalent of a floor full of flypaper.

I had to carry the kids around sticking to the floor for a whole week.Chat Icon

Re: What's the stupidest house mistake your DH has made?

This one happened just recently:

On our new house, it says on the water spicket outside not to leave the hose connected when it's cold out. So DH used the hose and left it connected and then we had a cold spell. Well, when it got warm again, I went to wash my car and after a while I noticed that the whole bottom side of the house was getting wet under the stucco siding (along with the water pressure being reduced).

So I had DH go in the basement to see if a pipe had burst, and I heard him go, "ohhhh noooooo....."

HALF of the basement was flooded Chat Icon
Luckily the basement isn't finished yet, but still, it was a pain in the AZZ to clean up all that water! Thank goodness for my Bissell carpet cleaner, which helped to s uck up the water, otherwise it would've taken us hours to clean it up with just the mop.

He installed the valve for the second shower upside down so in the other shower, it was a 50/50 chance of whether you would get hot water or cold water. I wasn't too happy for a couple of weeks!

Re: What's the stupidest house mistake your DH has made?

He installed the oven right next to a side door in the kitchen - it was exactly adjacent to the door. After installing everything, he went to open the oven door, and OOPS, not enough clearance from the door frame to open the oven door! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon So now our cooktop is in the same place, but the oven is in the island... it looks a little funny. Oh, yes, and when he was installing the tiles in the kitchen Mr. Know It All didn't realize that you're supposed to mix up the batches of tiles because each batch has a slightly different hue. So, before I got home, he laid down the first batch. When I got home I saw what he was doing and told him to mix up the batches. Well, now, when you walk into the kitchen there are about 8 squares all next to each other that are a different shade than the rest of the kitchen tiles...

Re: What's the stupidest house mistake your DH has made?

I had asked to put the chicken in oven to start dinner. It was in the usual dish I always marinate the chicken in. He puts the dinner that we had in a week ago thinking it was the chicken. I was so mad because all what he had to do was notice that it wasn't the dish by the contents besides the actual pan was totally different from one another.

OMG, what hasn't be done!!

I would say the best was when he was doing some wiring in the garage when he installed lighting in the rooms upstairs. He wanted the wires to be hidden underneath the sheetrock, so he cuts a small piece out on the ceiling of the garage, and the rest of the piece came crashing down with tons and tons of blown insulation. All over the place! Chat Icon So he decided to rip it all down.

Trouble with that was that he didn't reinsulate and our bedrooms are above the garage and we have all hardwood floors. It was a mighty cold winter and the rooms were so cold..

this isn't a mistake that he made fixing or anything, but he always takes out baking sheets and forets to put on a pot holder. He hates when he does that and I laugh hysterically Chat Icon Chat Icon

Oh, can I add that when we had our windows replaced and they had to replace some of the cedar shingles, we had to paint them to match the color of the house. Well, he painted the right side of the house, and its nice and dark, but he never painted the left side of the house and that's light and cruddy, and you can totally tell. Its been 2 years now and he's yet to "finish".

He was trying to be good and he cleaned out the lint trap of the washing machine. Problem is, he didn't put it back in correctly and the next load of wash flooded the whole kitchen. Chat Icon

Re: What's the stupidest house mistake your DH has made?

this isnt so much a "house" thinkg. but he always leaves the toilet seat up, much to my disapproval! and one day he calls and says...babe, i did something baaaad.

it turns out, when he opened th cabinet above the toilet, my entire makeup bag fell in!! NOT good ( :

and he STILL forgets to put the seat down, but i have since moved where i keep my makeup!
