"Thirteen Ways of Looking at a Blackbird" by Wallace Stevens. It takes a lot to pick it apart, but it's a good model- last year my kids wrote spoofs using that format and some of them were really good.

Valentine for Ernest Mann by Naomi Shihab Nye.
If you don't know it, it's a poem about poetry...I always used it to "kick off" my poetry study.

I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud by Wordsworth. I focus on the personfication with them and they love it! I have even brought in daffodils to have them reenact the words!

The Highwayman by Alfred Noyes is a favorite. Also Birches and Nothing Gold Can Stay by Robert Frost.

Another thing one of the 7th grade English teachers in my school did was "color poetry" with the students. It sounded interesting.
