Whats your opinion: RSVP for wedding on the couples "wedding website"
What do you all think of this? I got an invitation for a wedding this summer where, instead of a response card, it said Reply by this date at BrideandGroomsNames.com
Is this a new thing?

when i was planning my wedding, it was all over the place as a "norm"
it's one way for the bride and groom to save money, no cost for reply cards and postage.
when i did mine, i gave guests options: mail, call, email, webpage... not all guests have computers or feel comfortable with the internet.

On this invitation, there was only the wedding website. I had to respond for my mom because she doesnt have a computer.

I don't think that's appropriate--- a lot of older people don't have computers. It would've been nice for them to send out a card stating that people could call them OR rsvp online... it would've eliminated the postage that was as well....

Re: Whats your opinion: RSVP for wedding on the couples "wedding website"
My daughter did this for her wedding. She wanted to use less paper to help with the enviroment. She also made her invites somehow with seeds. So they could be planted in the ground and blossom in the Spring.
Not many people got the whole RSVP on line thing. She ended up calling a few people to see if they were coming.

Thats a really nice idea ed: there was also no information about the reception on the invitation. Its all on the website. I have a feeling there will be a lot of confused people.

I've never heard of this and I could see how it may become a new trend with the whole "go green" thing...however, I don't see that the traditional response card will become extinct.

Re: Whats your opinion: RSVP for wedding on the couples "wedding website"
I think it's great in theory, but in practice, we're still living in a world where a lot of people do not have computers, so it's a little bit of wishful thinking to think you can do it all online. Personally, I like the formality of invitations, but that's just me.

I understand how it benefits when attempting to be eco-friendly. But I don't think the entire nation is that "up to par" with technology.
There are still plenty of households without computers and what are those people supposed to do?
And, call me old fashioned. But when I was planning my wedding, the response cards were a huge help in visualizing seating arrangements.

I understand it from an environmental and economical perspective, but I like the formality of a traditional response card.

Re: Whats your opinion: RSVP for wedding on the couples "wedding website"
My cousin had this for his wedding almost 2 years ago. It worked for them b/c we have a lot of international guests & for my wedding a lot of the response cards did not survive the international mail system

I think it's a good idea but you should at least have the option of calling on there for those who don't have a computer.

I like the idea. Even if someone doesn't have a home computer, they can go to the local library for internet access. Or if worse comes to worse they can call with their RSVP.

A coworker did this, though they also inserted the reply card. I think the reply card should still be included, while most people are online these days, there are some who are not.

I love an old-fashioned traditional response card. But I did have a website -- and I loved that thing. I just didn't do online RSVP.

Re: Whats your opinion: RSVP for wedding on the couples "wedding website"
not a fan at all. i know it saves paper and such and less waste----but that is one of those things that i would never want to change. for me--weddings require a card and a stamp to send my response.
RSVPing online reminds me of evite.com -- like rsvping to my friends 26th bday dinner or bowling nite.

Re: Whats your opinion: RSVP for wedding on the couples "wedding website"
We got one that was RSVP online or call an 800-number
I thought it was a good idea, but I am VERY traditional when it comes to that stuff so I'm not sure I would have done it myself.

That would be my concern too, lots of older folks may not have a computer or know how to use one...there should be an alternate option.

I agree or do both you could rsvp online or by mail that way those that are computer suavey can and those who aren't can mail them back

I'm on the fence...
I'm more of a traditional person so, for me, I wouldn't be too inclined to do it for my own affair, but if it works for someone else? Go for it!

Re: Whats your opinion: RSVP for wedding on the couples "wedding website"
I did this for my wedding and guests loved it. We included a phone number and our website on the invites, 99% used the website. The few people who didn't have a computer asked a family member to RSVP for them.
It's been great for me too because I asked for their phone number and email address on the form (it was optional) and was able to really update my family contact info.
