when and how do I tell work
Do I need to write up an offical letter? I plan on working till the end.
Can I wait until I really start showing?
Sidebar they usually aren't thrilled when people get preggo here.

Re: when and how do I tell work
i think it depeneds.. i had all intentons of working up till the end then returning shortly after having the baby... i told them at 13 weeks because i worked in healthcare and wanted to make sure if there were any illnesses or cases i coulnt be involved in they knew why... since then i was only able to work up till 5 months then was placed on bed rest.. now it looks as though im going to be able to be a sahm and were moving so i most likely wont be returning...
i told my boss in a private meeting no need for official letters.. just now that im not returning will i give a letter.

Re: when and how do I tell work
I told at 12 weeks, felt safe that first tri was almost over, and I was showing, so it seemed the obvious choice..LOL.
I just decided to tell my boss in person, and she was so haapy for us!

Re: when and how do I tell work
I told my boss at 16 weeks, verbally. Then she said when I felt comfortable I can tell HR on my own. I did that when I hit 7 months. I work for a big corporation. We don't have requirements on when you have to tell. Most people here "come out" around 3 or 4 months.

Re: when and how do I tell work
I was nervous to tell my principal but I wanted to tell her sooner than later and I wanted to tell her before my collegues found out because I wanted her to hear it from me not them! I did not have to write a letter.
I told her at 11 weeks and she was really happy. I was starting to show but I am having 2. I would wait until either 12 weeks or you are starting to really show.
I told her that I was fully prepared to work until the end and also estimated how much time I would take off. I have a good relationship with her. Tell as much or as little as you need to!

Re: when and how do I tell work
I told my immediate supervisors at around 12 weeks b/c all of my dr appts are on Fridays and I felt it looked suspect leaving early one Friday a month.
everyone else basically finds out when they notice, or someone else tells them
I think you should do it when your comfortable, but I wouldn't want my boss to start eyeballing me, and waiting for the announcement either.

Re: when and how do I tell work
They recently made changes to the FMLA, does that at all dictate when you need to tell them?
As a manager, I would want my people to let me know 3 months before they were out so we had time to interview, hire and train the right replacement person. But then again, I might be in a different industry than you so staffing situation could be different.
