Re: When are you supposed to start the birthing classes?

i think it depends what kind. Bradley classes are 12weeks, I think some may take less time but that's the most common timeframe. Lamaze is much shorter, can be one session or a few.

Its at Winthrop- and its 4 2-hour sessions- if that helps.

Re: When are you supposed to start the birthing classes?

DH and I signed up a while back when I was 5 months pregnant (we figured might as well get it out of the way) but we actually just started them now.

Lamaze - March (7 months pregnant)
Breastfeeding - April (8 months)
Baby Care - April (8 months)

We signed up early to avoid not getting our first choice. Some are limited - like the Breastfeeding II at NSLIJ - after April the next time is after the baby is here. So we jumped on that.

Re: When are you supposed to start the birthing classes?

I took a one-day class this past Saturday. I am 30 weeks.

The class I took was great because it wasn't sponsored by any hopsital. It is all about what you want, not what is easier for the hospital...

It depends on where you go. At Good Sam, they set it up for me when I was near my 8th month.

I did a lamaze class 2 weeks before I gave birth, I had a private class at home, it was about 4 hours.

Re: When are you supposed to start the birthing classes?

We are having a friend of mine who is a doula give us some private lessons. I am 8 months. It was too hard to get our schedules together for a class that the hospital sponsered.

I haven't signed up for mine yet, as my doc still hasn't made a final decision on whether or not I will have c -section due to my placenta previa.

Re: When are you supposed to start the birthing classes?

I never got around to signing up for one - I wish I had taken one - but at this point I'll just show up at the hospital and do what the nurses tell me to do.

I have no clue...but I'm sure it depends more on the timeframe of the actual classes for their suggested begin date.

Same here- we just don't have the time. I'm comfortable with our decision- my friends with babies say the class, while informative, really didn't tell them anything that they weren't told at the hospital.

With our schedules etc we were having trouble signing up - and we are moving around the time we would probably take it and have a lot of painting and other things we will need to get done (nursery etc) so it will be crazy the last two months before I am due. We decided to get a video instead - this way we watch it on our schedule - and if it isn't helpful we didn't spend $150-200 on the class. My friend did this and said it was the same info as the class gives out.
