When can you fly when pregnant?
DH and I are planning a vacation towards the end of the year. I am not preggo right now but was just wondering, when it is OK to fly? Is in only the 2nd trimester? I know you shouldn't travel to close to the end, for obvous reasons but are there any other restrictions?

Re: When can you fly when pregnant?
Thanks Shana! What about at the beginning? Are you supposed to wait a certain number of weeks?

Re: When can you fly when pregnant?
I don't think so....I got a BFP in early Nov and flew in early Dec to NY. I ended up miscarrying, but not because I flew-it was a missed PG-the baby never developed.
I DO know that IF you do travel by any means, they reccomend getting up and walking at least every hour for about 10 minutes. Also, if flying, drink LOTS of fluids due to the change in pressure and levels of oxygen.

Re: When can you fly when pregnant?
Depending on how far the trip is the Dr. may tell you not to fly earlier than 36 weeks. Each doctor is different. At first my doctor advised me not to fly after 32 weeks. Later she OK'd a trip to NY for my shower at 33.5 weeks bc the flight was only 1.5 hours from Chicago.
If you do fly make sure you drink plenty of fluids bc there is the risk of becoming dehydrated. Also try to walk around if it's a long flight.

Re: When can you fly when pregnant?
My doc told me not to fly after 30 weeks. I flew at 26 and was fine. I had a healthy pregnancy.

Re: When can you fly when pregnant?
I flew at 12 weeks to Jamacia for vacation, my Dr said that was fine...if I was high risk, he would not have advised it.

Re: When can you fly when pregnant?
My dr approved up to 36 weeks. I flew at about 17. I was glad I waited until after the first trimester only because I was so queasy from like week 9-15 - my vacation and flight would have been miserable.
