Our crib converts to a todller day bed and then a full size bed through the use of a conversion kit.

This is what our friends also did.

Abby never grew out of her crib, we just refused to buy her another one and gave her baby furniture to Jeremy. But since she is so small, we got her a toddler bed. Its been working out better than we thought. A twin bed would have been too big for her. The one crib we have converts to a toddler bed as well.

I answered other. DS is still in his crib but it's a convertible crib so whenever he starts to climb out, we'll just take off the front and make it into the toddler "bed" and then once he's outgrown that it turns into a full size bed.

If your DC is OUTGROWING their crib, there is no point in a toddler bed. A Toddler bed uses the same mattress as the crib.

DS out grew his. He is over 40 inches tall at under 3 Yo. He just looked like he had no room in there. We switched to a twin bed.

If your DC is climbing out or you want to switch for other reasons than a toddler bed might be a nice transition.

We converted the crib to the toddler bed last weekend when he climbed out of it for the first time. He has been great in the toddler bed since, it is nice and low for him, so even if the crib didn't convert, I would get a toddler bed.

We bought DD a twin bed...I felt a toddler bed was a waste of money.

Full size. DD never really grew out of it. We needed it for DS so we bought her a new set of bedroom furniture and got a full bed.

We bought a toddler bed from Wal-Mart. It was cheap and will work for the amount of time we'll need it for.

DS's crib turns into a toddler bed, then twin. But since I am pregnant, I needed the crib again.

We got him a twin bed. When I thought really hard about it, I just wanted to do one transition and leave it at that. We got the bed rails for both sides, and he did amazing with the transition.

Only climbed out of bed a handful of times. And when I "caught" him, he was a deer in headlights and never did it again.

He still doesn't sleep with a pillow or blanket, because honestly, he has no idea what to do with them. He was 2 in June.

I probably should have re-worded it---we want to switch for other reasons.... The crib his in--converts, but I'm PG with #2 and they're going to share a room and not sure a Twin would fit in there with the crib and rest of the furniture.

Thanks for all of your replies.

We bought a toddler bed. My son is obsessed with Thomas the Train and it was only available in toddler size. I figured they are only young once so let him enjoy it. Plus, I figured my younger son will probably use it when my older son goes to a bigger bed.
