When did everyone switch tot he convertible car seat from the infant one
DD is 5 months and I thinks he is way to squished in the infant seat. Esp with heavier clothes on for the winter.
Second question......How did you bring them in and out of places then. Just carry them? What about when you want to do shopping in stores. I usually nap the infant seat into the stroller base. Whats a practical alternative?

DS was about 19 pounds when I switched him.....it was winter, January I think and at that point he was sitting on his own, so when we shopped I used the cart with a shopping cart seat cover & a blanket tucked around & over him. Once we got in the store I took the blanket off. He only would be wearing a fleece hoody & a hat usually over his regular clothes.
IF I had had to switch him before he was sitting up......then I really have no freakin' clue what I would have done for shopping!

DD was just over 9 months. She was 1/2-3/4 inch away from the height limit, and several pounds UNDER the weight limit of the seat. We made the switch b/c it was National Car Seat Safety Week and we got he convertible seats professionally installed on a Saturday.
As for DD - I bought a new stroller and took her in and out of the car.

ds came out of the carrier at 2 months old because he was already 18 lbs... we never really carried him into stores, i just always got the stroller out.... food shopping i always did alone or with dh who pushed him in the stroller... i am not a big fan of taking ds out of the stroller when we are out though since i dont want to him to think that it is ok, so whenever he is in any form of a store he is either in the stroller or shopping cart.. but that is really just my own pyscho thing that i do...

5-6mo?
As soon as she could sorta be held upright. I wanted her out of that infant carrier as she got too heavy to take up and down the stairs. It got scary.. I worried about dropping her and I felt horrible just putting her on the ground so often.
I'd say it was a month or so before she could hold herself up right for long periods of time. We just used our stroller for everything. Never put her in a cart since she couldnt hold herself upright.
Once she could, we left the stroller in the car more often. Now she walks and I wonder if we will ever use that stroller again! LOL

around 5 months old. DS was SO chubby, so him + the carrier = way too heavy to carry. We live in a co-op so we had to carry him, from the parking lot, around the front of the building via a flight of stairs, to our front door, and then bc we are a 2nd floor unit, when you go in our front door, there is stairs to get up to the living space. I just couldnt do it anymore.
As far as going in and out of places, if it was someplace quick, the stroller, if it were the mall or something he went in his graco carriage.

We used the infant seat until DS was 12 months. He was still under the height and weight limit. Before this, I would push DS in the stroller (when he couldn't sit up) and push a separate cart for the food.

I think we are going to install it in the next week or two-- before it gets too cold to stand outside and do it!
Sasha will be 10 months on Thurs.

DD is 10 months old and I refuse to give up the infant seat at this time. It's much too convienent for when she falls alseep on the way home from daycare, I can take the seat with her in it in the house and snap it into the Graco SweetPeace swing. Or like last night, we had to take her to the Dr., I was able to just keep her bundled up and snap the seat into the snap and go.
I have the Graco SafeSeat and it can hold her until she is 32lbs/30 inches.
She is 19lbs, 27 inches and still fits comfortably in the seat.

4 1/2 months. My son would always cry in the infant seat, he was always crying in the car. Once we switched to the convertible seat, he was a happy baby.

DS is getting switched this weekend - he was 4 mos yesterday. The straps cannot be loosened any more than they already are and they're snug on him

around 5.5 6 months...DD is a big baby and was not comfortable in the city and not mention she was getting way to heavy for me to carry around in it
