When did it become America's favorite past time...
To sit around and be bitchy about a ton of topics but not actually DO anything about the topics that heat people up? I have seen a BAZILLION debates on these boards: Rape Abortion Capital Punishment Immigration Animal Cruelty Taxes Politics ect Yet MOST of the times when I ask what people do to support their casse/cause the answer is "nothing" or my sentance is just ignored.
Here and now I would like to remind people, that this is a nation where YOU can make a difference. If you don't like something...become an activist and SUPPORT your cause! Donate money to help the fight if you don't have time.

it's human nature to complain and debate. I would say that applies 10 fold to a public message board.

And at the very least, vote for the people who make the laws you are complaining about

Some of us do get involved. I for one do not get into it on the boards because I do it for me and for my family & neighbors, and not to prove to anyone that I have the right to an opinion.

Re: When did it become America's favorite past time...
I've b!tched and written letters to ebay complaining about how they are too busy protecting a seller and not doing enough to protect the buyer. Does that count!!!
Sorry the burn from ebay just isnt healing.
When I was 6 and didnt like my bed time I did a sit in at the door of my parents bedroom.
In all seriousness, when I was younger I had written letters to both President Bush and President Clinton expressing my concerns. You know what I got back, a picture. A stinking picture and a letter thanking me for expressing my feelings.
In my town the cross streets of Cranberry and Price are ridiculous. Their honestly should be a light there. Cars are flying down Price, the people on Cranberry are stuck for a good 5 minutes to either make their turn or go straight. When it's school time, Price is a school zone so cars are going 15 MPH and it makes it even harder to proceed because of the long stretch of cars. It is such a PITA when crossing Price or turning onto Price from Cranberry.
So what have I done, written letters to the county, to the mayor, to the law enforcement officers, to the department of motor vehicle, to the department of highway safety, to the sheriffs, and to the local police.
ABSOLUTLY NOTHING has been accomplished. I am tired of hearing it only takes one voice because my one voice no matter how loud it screams is not making any difference. I know it's only a traffic light, but traffic light may make a difference in preventing a terrible car accident.
It gets to a point of why bother.

I think the slogan should be one PERSISTANT voice Keep at it and try to recruit some neighbors. You can also try to start a petition and get a lot of the towns people to sign it...then bring it to the next town meeting.

I wish more people actually did something about what they believed in. Just think how much more enjoyable this world would be.

Re: When did it become America's favorite past time...
OMG- this is one of my BIGGEST pet peeves about here and people in general. If you have a strong opinion about something, I believe you need to have an equally strong opinion about WHAT can be done to resolve it and how you can help.
It angers me to no end to hear people talk and talk and DO NOTHING or really care about nothing but convincing others they are right.
I may not be 100% pro active in my arguments/beliefs, but I make sure I TRY.

even if it is to show my point of view on a chat site
