When did you first take your DC to a show (movie, disney on ice, musical, etc)?

I remember the wiggles were in town in the summer and DH wouldn't let me take DS. I think he was 4-5 months at the time.

Now DS is almost 8m old. He is very alert and enjoys music and color.

Do you think he is ready now or is he still too young? When did you first take your DC to show?

They each went to their first show at about 18 months. DD's was Sesame Street Live, DS's was the Wiggles.

We haven't done the movies yet, they don't sit through a whole movie at home yet.

we took DS to the Circus at 16 months, and are taking him to Disney on Ice in Jan, he will be almost 2.5. I do think 8mos is too young to spend the money, when they wont really "get it"

Re: When did you first take your DC to a show (movie, disney on ice, musical, etc)?

Went to his first movie at 1 year (the kids showing at Island 16--he did great and we went back several times)

Went to the Backyardigans Live at 14 months (had a meltdown and we had to leave)

Went to the circus at 18 months (he did great)

Went to Blues Clues at 22 months (did great)

Went to Dora Live at 2 (Loved it!)

Went to see Toy Story in 3D at 2.5 (sat totally still throught the whole movie, enthralled).

My DS always had a good attention span/interest in that stuff. But I don't think I would have done anything before 1 year.

We took DD#1 to the circus at I think almost 10 months. She loved it. She sat and clapped and smiled and laughed. She did fall asleep about the last 5 mins of act 1 - and napped thru intermission but woke up just in time for the second act and made it thru the whole show. The key is to get seats as close as you can afford/get b.c it helps to engage them.

DS is 17 months and I was considering taking him to see Sesame street over the summer. I didn't take him because I figured the only way he would really enjoy it was for us to sit really close and those tickets are expensive! I also thought he wouldn't sit through the whole show anyway.
Besides it being loud, crowded and germy, I don't know about kids being too young as it's just not worth the price of the tickets. If it's a free show, you can always walk out and not worry about dropping $100 on 20 minutes.

18 months is about the right age. IMO any younger is a waste of time and money

We took DS to Thomas the Train Live when he was about 14 months and he LOVED it and was great.

I think if it is a show geared towards younger children you should be fine!

Re: When did you first take your DC to a show (movie, disney on ice, musical, etc)?

Movie: 8mo (took her to see Star Trek)

Show: never really thought to take her to one, nothing really was worth the money. But she saw shows at SeaWorld and LOVED them at 1yr

At her age now, I can see taking her to a show but still can't justify the money, she'll only enjoy it for the moment and really doesnt have enough attention span for super long (1hr) shows, so short snippets are fine. I'm sure she'd love a puppet show, another live action thing (she saw Countdown to Halloween by Sesame Street at SeaWorld and loved it)

I would/could/have taken her to the aquarium since birth practically.

Been to the Zoo for her 1yr birthday and she loved that too.

I am not sure I'd take her to a movie now. She's much more vocal and thats a bit distracting unless it was a kid movie.

Re: When did you first take your DC to a show (movie, disney on ice, musical, etc)?

18 months. Her cousin's dance recital. She was totally mesmerized for @ 1 1/2 hours, and then she was done. A few weeks later (maybe a month) she saw Aladdin at the Northport theatre and made it almost to the end.
