I gave it to DD at 11 months - from the suggestion of her ped - I have only given it about 1 time maybe 2 times a week at most.

I haven't yet. But I loathe tuna, I cannot STAND the sight or smell of it, so unless DH or my parents give it to him while I am out of the house, then probably not for a long, long time.

Same here. Plus canned tuna has mercury so I really don't think it's a good idea. JMO though.

Someone asked about fish not too long ago--I fm'ed her that I just called my ped on this. It is now recommended kids do not get any fish at all until at least**2 if not alittle over. I was bummed but they said noway. I also dk if I will give them tuna being the high mercury content

i have personally never gave DS tuna, but i cannot stand any sort of fish/seafood. DS has had tuna one time though with his Nanny and he loved it; i just haven't gotten around to making it for him again {unless his Nanny is willing to make it}

Re: when did you give your dc tuna fish for the 1st time?
I would ask your ped b/c I think there are different schools of thought on this - my ped was okay with certain seafood - no shellfish - but okay on some tuna, flounder and other ones like cod. There is a limit to how much an adult should eat per week - but DD is a small eater so I don't worry too much - she only eats about 1-3 ozs total a week IF that much (adults are recommended to have up to 12 ozs). I give mostly fresh tuna (if you use canned - chunk light is lower in mercury).

DS is 2 and still hasn't had it. I don't eat it myself though.

we are big <>< eater in the house, and we eat it once a week and since DS eats what we eat, he gets <><
