Re: when did you know dc was right/left handed?
I don't think you can really know until at least 2-3 years old. DH and I are both lefties. DS is almost 18 months. He holds a spoon with his right hand and colors with his right hand. I'll be surprised if he's a lefty, but I guess there's still time for him to change his preference.

Re: when did you know dc was right/left handed?
"They" say ambidextrous till about 3 but DS is 15 months now and has been a lefty since he started using his hands so I'm going to say about 4-6 months. If you give him something and put it in his right hand he will switch it to his left.

Re: when did you know dc was right/left handed?
DD is almost 9 months and Ive been wondering this. I actually posted a thread a few weeks ago about it!
I could swear DD is left handed, she definitely favors her left hand. But, as some PP have said it might still be too early

I think Jordan was 3 or even 4 years old.

Re: when did you know dc was right/left handed?
It is too soon to tell at 3 months. However, everyone was saying my DD was left handed by the time she was 4 months (I didn't want to get my hopes up - I'm a lefty too).
At 2.5 years old, she still favors her left hand so now I believe it.

Re: when did you know dc was right/left handed?
Not until they start school really.
My son seems to be ambidextrous but when he started school, they would constantly force him to use his right hand.
Now, although he writes with his right hand, he uses both when playing sports. it's pretty cool.

My DD is 2. As soon as I think I know, she starts using both hands again.

Re: when did you know dc was right/left handed?
Abby clearly shows a preference for her left hand when it comes to eating and coloring. She CAN do most things with both hands but it is VERY clear that she is left side dominant now. She is 21+ months.
