When did you remove the car seat harness?
DS is 2.5 years old, about 38 inches and 35 pounds. We have the Graco Nautilus and he's at the max settings with the harness. It seems tight on him, especially around the shoulders and he often tells me his uncomfortable. Is it too soon to remove the harness and use the seatbelt with the booster only?

I'm not there yet with DS but my personal feelings are this...
Yes, he is way to young. The MINIMUM recommendation for a belt positioning booster is 4 years old and 40 pounds. The harnesses by the shoulders should be at or slightly above him. Are you putting him in with a coat? Maybe that is making them tighter? What are the maximum limits according to the manufacturers recommendations? Unfortunately you may need to get a different seat that fits better. DS (25 months) is 30 pounds and 35 inches and has plenty of room to go in his Evenflo Symphony which has a maximim harness weight limit of 65 pounds and the straps an be adjusted to be very high for taller children.

Re: When did you remove the car seat harness?
You need to adjust the harness.. It can be used up to 65lbs in harness mode. You need to take the seat cover off and re-thread the straps. It is way too soon to use it as a regular booster seat for a 2.5 year old. My friends 6 year old still fits in it with the harness still being used. And he is BIG for his age.. You can adjust it to fit him..

That is wayyyyy too young to be without a harness. No way. Whether or not they are uncomfortable is not an issue- safety comes before comfort.

You need to adjust the harness height, also take out the extra pad if you have it in there. Also bring up the headrest so that the red guides are about shoulder height
2.5 is way too young for a booster. They lack impulse control needed for boostering and need the harness to properly disperse crash forces over a larger area of their bodies.
