When did your baby start to crawl?

Isabella is starting to scoot backwards...so is forward crawling soon to follow?

But she's also trying to pull herself up to a standing position.

9 months. For a couple of months before that she would literally roll everywhere--it was quite funny!

Jordana is rolling everywhere. She is also scooting backwards. My sister who is a child's physical therapist told me that this is the first step to crawling. Jordana is 7 months old/

About 8-9 months. Joseph did a wounded soldier crawl (looks like he was shot in combat) for about a week or two. Completley had me freaked out because I had read a long book on crawling & brain development. He figured it out within a week. (whew!)

Maddie learned earlier earlier (about 7 months) because um...we asked Joseph to practice with her.Chat Icon

Re: When did your baby start to crawl?

Yeah Julia was around 8 months when she started crawling, she would get up on all fours and rock or go backwards, then one day she just took off.

a relative of ours told me to make SURE she crawls. She said there are links to certain disabilites of children who go straight into walking.

I'm not sure if I believe her...

I believe it. When Joseph was evaluated by Early Intervention, they focused a lot on crawling. It helps create the connections to the left side & right side of the brain. Also linked to learning disabilities.

Re: When did your baby start to crawl?

hmm...do they all go backwards first? Ellie has been pushing herself and dragging herself (does sort of look like a wounded soldier) all over the floor for about a week now but it's forward or sideways not backward.

Yes they almost always go backwards first. The wounded soldier crawl is also fine to do. I was just freaked out worrying that he had something wrong with him because of it. It was just a matter of time before he figured out the left & right thing with his hands. Turns out he's not learning disabled, he's "behaviorally challenged"Chat Icon

I think it was around 9 months. She is now 14 months old and just starting to walk on her own.

I was an early walker so I think that's where this comes from. From my expierence, you don't want to rush it! I wish she was still just in the rolling phase!

Now I have to baby proof everything!

If babies never crawl, it's not a problem:

I really don't think so. Marron also hated being on her belly. But if we put her down and put something in front of her that she wants, she will make her way to it. She is 7 months old. She pulls her knees up underneath her and then thrusts forward and sort of army crawls along with that.
