When did your baby truly smile??

My son is 2mths old (1 mth early) and I don't feel like he has smiled (besides the times when he smiles in his sleep)

When is normal? should I worry?

Re: When did your baby truly smile??

Don't worry at all. My first daughter was colic and really didn't smile until she was 4 months old. I thought she never would. She is now 18 months and has the happiest disposition ever. Everyone always asks does she ever not smile????

My 12 week old smiled at 2 months. She'll probably be my cranky one!

Julia did a real smile around 3 months, she was in her bath tub, and I was talking on the phone and she just started to smile and giggle out of no where, it was the cutiest thing.

She smiled at around 6 or 8 weeks, but her first real smile/laugh was on Feb 25th - She was born on Nov. 28th.

Jake was around 6 weeks old when he first smiled.

I wouldn't be worried because if your baby was 1 month early (a preemie?) then they count milestones from the EDD, not the actual b-day. Chat Icon

Re: When did your baby truly smile??

When babies are born early, you should expect a bit of a delay in milestones (e.g. smiles, babbling, first words, etc). If your baby was born 1 month early, then he should be functioning about 1 month behind other children (who were born fullterm) at the same time.

Your little one, although biologically is two months old, is actually functioning at a 1 month old level. You should expect smiles within the next few weeks, so don't be alarmed.

By the way, these "delays" are usually caught up by the time children are 2-3.

My babies were a little behind with that, I think their first "real" smiles were around 3-4 months.
