When did your DC start watching kid shows?

How old was your DC when they started watching things like Sesame Street, Elmo, etc? How much did you let them watch?

DH and I are bad with the TV, even before DS the TV was almost always on even if its just as background noise.

So for DS now when I am home if I am doing stuff aroudn the house and he is in the walker I will put on Noggin, but he will just look up for a few minutes then run away.

The only things he will really watch (and its generally within an hour or so of bed time) is the wiggles or Baby Einstein - Baby Neptune. His cousin in 18 months older and these are her favorites so I think thats why he likes them so much.

Re: When did your DC start watching kid shows?

DD was like 10-11 months before we let her watch TV. It was on often in the background (and I know they say background noise isn’t that great for them either), but we never let her sit & watch it, if she stopped what she was doing to watch it, we’d shut it off. I just didn’t want her watching TV before that. But at around 10-11 months, we’d let her watch Sesame Street. And that’s all she watches now, at 14 months. And it’s not every day, maybe 4 times a week. And she doesn’t sit and watch for the whole hour, she’s up & about. But if we have one of our shows on and she attempts to watch it, we still will shut it off and now allow her to watch it.

Everyone has their own opinions & comfort levels in terms of how much TV they let their child watch. I’d definitely just go with what you’re comfortable with.

I guess DS started watching about 9 months. Only in the AM . Only one 20 min. show, and it's Only so I can get ready for work in the AM.

DS is 14 months and I rarely, if ever, put it on. I HATE tv as background noise and never watch daytime tv. I also secretly love that he would rather look at books than watch TV.

I guess I will permit it more when he is older or can ask for it, but it is nothing I'm rushing, pushing or encouraging.
