When did your doctor tell you to call

Yesterday, my doctor told me that we were to wait to call until I was having contractions every 3 min. that lasted for 1 min. for over an hour. She said that by that point I should be 5 cm dialated and not able to talk through the contractions. She said that even though I am having an epidural they want it to be as natural as possible. Just curious what other doctors have told you ladies.

Re: When did your doctor tell you to call

This is the list my doctors gave me to know when to call them. If any of these things happen we are supposed to call:

1. When my water breaks.

2. When I can't walk, talk or joke through a contraction.

3. If there is any bleeding.

4. If there is a change in movement from the baby.

She told me the other things also so,I guess that is about the same.

Yeah. They never told me about the timing thing, but I'm pretty sure if they are that regular they are going to fulfill #2 on the list for me!! Chat Icon

Re: When did your doctor tell you to call

Mine told me to call when my contractions were several minutes apart because I progressed so quickly with my first.

Re: When did your doctor tell you to call

mine told me to call if:

my contractions are 4 minutes apart for 2 hours.

OR:

if my water breaks and it's green (meconium in the water) AND it's during the daytime. If this happens at night - go right to the hospital - they'll evaluate me and will call him at home.

he said if my water breaks at night then I should hang out for a bit (he actually said try and get some sleep) and see if contractions progress. If they do - go to the hospital and the hospital will call him.

He's a really cool doctor who delivers 95 out of 100 of his patient's babies - but my guess is that he does not like getting calls at his house in the middle of the night!

In my doctors pamplet is says to call when your contractions are 5 minutes apart for 1 hour or when you water breaks....

Me? I call immediately as I can go from start to finish in under 3 hours.

Re: When did your doctor tell you to call

My paper says:
1)Contractions- every 3-5 minutes lasting for at least 1 hr
Contraction lasts 30-60 seconds
Increasing in intensity

2) Rupture of Membranes
either a gush of fluid or constant leaking
Color is clear, bloody or green tinged

3) Vaginal Bleeding
Any type should be brought to attention

4) Decrease of Fetal Movement
Should feel 5 distinct movements in one hour or 10 movements in 2 hours after having something to eat or drink and lying on your left side.

That's exactly what my Dr. told me. I was surprised just for an hour too b/c I swear at the prenatal class they said longer.
