When did your toddler start talking
My son is putting 2 and 3 words together like "What is that?"
He is 16 months old. Is this normal?

That's great...my son didn't really start talking until he was 16 months, and he started with 2-3 word sentences...and hasn't stopped since

DS had been babbling for a while now, but really started using words between 17 and 18 months.
He is not putting words together yet and he is 18 and a half months.

totally normal. And that is great! My son is 20 months and he is putting 3 to 4 word sentences together now.

16 months is great for putting words together!!
I've learned that babies are all so different. It's really hard to compare...my son didn't say more than 5 words till he was around 19 months...but some of his little friends were talking at 15 months (single words) and some didn't start until 2...
He has one little friend that is saying complete long sentences at 2 1/2 (which is prob "normal") but my son is only saying 3 word phrases for the most part..I'm not worried, I know he'll say more when he is ready!

That is really good!!!
Erin is 19 months now and says some words, mostly approximations.. breh for bread, co for coat.. etc. which she started doing a couple of months ago.
