When do you close your pool?
Closing on our house in about 2 weeks and I have no idea how to take care of a pool or anything. We'll have about 2 weeks in the house until September. Should I call around now and schedule for a company to close it in September? I'm assuming they book up fast. Also, I'll probably need someone to come and service it for those 2 weeks also, right?

Yes, they book up pretty early. We close ours ourselves and kind of play it by ear, depending on the weather, to decide when to do it. You can always call now to schedule it - I would say for about a week or 2 after Labor Day, if you don't have a heater. For the couple of weeks before you close it, it probably won't need much work - keep chlorine levels good and vacuuming - probably not much more, as long as it's been kept up all summer.

If it has been maintained properly all season it should be fine sitting for two weeks as long as you're still running it every day. My husband owns a pool company (The Poolsmith 631-872-3390, shameless plug lol!) and he always advises his customers to book early if you want a specific closing date. It's definitely possible to do it all yourself but since you don't know anything about pools yet you should probably have someone else do it for you the first time.

Great to know! I remember you had told me about your husband's company when I was looking into the Baby Loc fence. Will definitely call them this week to set something up for closing the pool and installing a fence. Rather support a fellow LIFer's business than some random company.

We wait until like the 3rd week of September. Sometimes it's still hot in September.

I use them for weekly service- they have been great
I don't even want to think about closing it - since they just opened it (I put it in this year and they came over the same day to set up the chemicals that I called in a panic)
I will be sure to book a closing date soon
