when do you get an engineer to come in?
we have signed a sellers agreement and are awaiting the contracts. should i wait until my attorney actually has the contracts in her hand before getting in the engieer? i dont want to pay the $$$ for the engineer and the place to fall through for whatever reason.
also do i have to meet with attorney to sign contracts or can they be faxed. I will be away for work next week & i knwo they will come next week.
TIA,

have the engineer go in NOW - this way, if any work needs to be done to the house, you can add it into the contracts for the seller to agree to and sign.

as for signing contracts. We signed them with our lawyer, but did not release them to the seller for another week until they came to our terms.

Wait until your lawyer has a contract but then hold it until after the inspection.
We had a deal fall through after the inspection. Sometimes you can't prevent it.

ususally you have an inspection before signing contracts, you want to make sure you still want the house!!
as for signing - you normally go to your attny's office- your attorney will go through it with you and explain everything.

Re: when do you get an engineer to come in?
customarily, from offer accepted you have 5 days to get an inspector to come in. in the meantime, your REA should be faxing a copy of the binder, the lead disclosure, and your approval letter to both sets of attorneys so that contracts can be drawn up. once you have the inspection done, have a copy of the report sent to your attorney so he/she can review it and do any final negotiating that may be needed. once everything is agreed, you go in and sign asap (so that no one else can see the house! ) and once the seller signs too you will be officially under contract.
if you're going to be away, maybe your attorney can fedex them to you wherever you are (at your expense of course ) and then just fedex them back to him/her. thats happened a couple of times but its usually with a seller of a vacant house.
good luck!

Re: when do you get an engineer to come in?
After our offer was accepted we had the inspector go to the home asap. I called the attorney after we even scheduled the inspection. You will need the inspection in order to have the contract complete. If there are any things that you need repaired or if you need a credit, this will have to be presented in the contract.
