When do you know you should take your DC to the Ped. when they have a cold.....
Im not sure what to do. She is coughing again. But I feel like a bother. Last time he said it was teething, which i dont believe, well now she is cough and has a super runny nose again.
What should I do??? Her cold started on Tuesday.

I took my DD when her runny nose turned green, and she wouldn't sleep at night.

Re: When do you know you should take your DC to the Ped. when they have a cold.....
I waited last time.....unless it's a barking cough I highly doubt they will do much for you.
Both my boys got upper respitory infections two weeks ago. Cough, runny noise...but the kevin got a barking cough and started wheezing so we wound up having to take him to the ER and he was diagnosed with Croup. Jack wound up just being really sick and we gave him tylenol and vapor baths and put the humidifier in his room. My doctor will let us bring them in but usually will only listen for breath sounds and that's it. So I usually try and hold out....since it's tough getting them over there.
It sucks....hang in there.

Re: When do you know you should take your DC to the Ped. when they have a cold.....
I take her in if she's running a fever for more than a day and/or diarrhea more than a day and is not her normal self. I go by instinct too. Thankfully, I've only had to take her in once for a virus she had while cutting her first tooth (diarrhea, fever, crankiness, the whole gamut). The ped let her fend it off herself (tylenol for pain relief) but I had to stay home for a couple days because of daycare's sick policy.
When DD first started daycare, she got a couple colds with coughs and stuffy nose that lasted a few days. She acted normally though so I let her fight them off herself to build up her immunity. Now, she'll get a little something every once in a while but it doesn't last more than a day.

Re: When do you know you should take your DC to the Ped. when they have a cold.....
I would love to know the answer too. My DD had a fever Wednesday night and on & off yesterday. I gave her Tylenol and it seemed to help. Her nose is running and not to be gross but its green. She sounds like she is snorting when she breaths. I put a humidifier in her room last night and used saline drops. I feel so bad for her. You can see it in her eyes that she doesn't feel well. I hate going to ped office, cause they make you wait forever and usually tell me there is nothing to do. So how long should I wait before deciding I should take her? I don't want it to turn into something worse.

Re: When do you know you should take your DC to the Ped. when they have a cold.....
Our doc doesn't have us come in unless the fever last more than two days, she has a rash, or her breathing is so labored she cannot breathe on her own.
We only took her in once for being sick but she was 3 weeks old. She ended up with RSV and had to be hospitalized. But she had labored breathing.
This last illness she had a fever for three days and then got a rash. I never ended up taking her in, just consulting on the phone with the doctor on a daily basis. She had roseola and there was nothing they could do but tell me to give her motrin and tylenol for the fever. Unless its an infection, that needs antibiotics there really is no need to go in.

I would only go if there is a 100+ fever, cough that sounds excessivly phlemy, child appears in pain or if I just got the mommy instinct.
