When Do You Put the Baby Down for the Night

My babies usually go to bed after their 10-11 PM feeding. I would like to start trying to put them down after there 8-9 feeding. Is that too early? They are 3 months and I am back to work so having those extra three hours to sleep or get stuff done would be a lifesaver for me. Plus, they seem to get really fussy between 8-11PM. I just don't want them getting up at 5AM since i need to get ready for work in the monring and like the fact they sleep till 7-8AM.

So my question is ... before 6 months what time was your babies bed time and what time did they get up??

Thanks for any guidance...

My two go down for the night usually by 8. They sleep until 7 - 7:30. They are 4 months now, and have been doind this for the past 4-6 weeks.

Re: When Do You Put the Baby Down for the Night

I'm having the same problem. I'm back to work now and Connor is 12 weeks old today and he doesn't go down for "bed" until 12:00-1:00am. The earliest is around midnight but usually not until closer to 1:00am. Chat Icon Don't get me wrong I love the extra time with him, BUT working FT I can't stay up until 1:00am anymore because I have to get up even earlier because I have myself, the baby and my 2.5 yr old to get ready in the morning so I'm not getting much sleep. I would love to be able to get him down around 10:30-11:00pm as well. Most babies on here go to bed for the night around 8-9:00pm. That would be too early for me because I don't get home from work and picking up the kids until around 6:30pm so I want time with them. Of course if he needs more sleep I'll put him down, but so far he doesn't. Yes, please if anyone can offer any advice? I believe I've asked before too, I can't remember! Chat Icon Thanks and good luck! Chat Icon

Re: When Do You Put the Baby Down for the Night

Ryan is 3 months, goes down at 7-7:30 (I CAN'T keep him up later, maybe because his naps are not so great, but he is ALWAYS tired for bed by 7) and he was sleeping til 5-5:30, but only recently seems to be going til 7 when I have to wake him for daycare. He'll fuss a little around 6 but I leave him in there and he stays asleep.

Sounds like they might be ready for bed earlier if they're fussy at 8, I'd give it a shot and see what happens (try a couple nights in a row to really see)

You might need to put them down at 8, but feed them in their sleep at 10/11 if they're not ready to skip that feeding yet.

Also, if they wake at 5, lots of times you can give a bottle and they'll go right bakc to sleep til like 7.

Re: When Do You Put the Baby Down for the Night

Ellie used to get up at 5 or 6 am but I can't remember at what age she stopped, but when she did, she would take her first bottle and go right back to sleep so even if you move bedtime earlier you may have that happen and it will still work out. Now she sleeps alittle longer but is still awake too early for me to get in a shower and get ready so I'm not sure how you fix that since I'm facing this problem now. She'll sit awake in the bathroom while I shower but not long enough to dry my hair or put on make up, just a shower Chat Icon

ETA we were putting her down b/w 8&9 for a long while with 9 being the latest and then she just started seeming tired earlier so we kept moving it earlier and earlier now it's b/w 7 and 8, 8pm at the latest.

I am back to work too (have been back for almost 2 months now) and DS would go down between 7:30 - 8:30 and started sleeping throught the night right before I came back to work. He still goes down between 7:30-8:30 but gets up once anytime between 3-5 am takes a bottle and then goes back to sleep. The babysitter comes to pick him up at 7 am.

Re: When Do You Put the Baby Down for the Night

I put her to bed at 7, 7:15 the latest but it used to be closer to 8 and I found that an earlier bedtime leads her to sleeping later in the AM.

Re: When Do You Put the Baby Down for the Night

I am very lucky, Hailey goes to bed about 7:45. I feed her the last bottle at 7:30 and she goes to bed right after. She sleeps till about 7 or 7:15. She is now 5 months but has been doing that since about 3 months.
