When do you start getting ready??

We live in a 2BR condo, so we will have a lot of reorgnaizing to do to prep for our little "mini B". I am only 8.5 weeks, but after 4 sonograms-- I am starting to believe this is really going to happen.

I started putting a list of "to do's" together-- and while a lot of them are things we could just do anyway-- like getting rid of stuff, I don't want to start doing stuff too soon.

I am Jewish, so we are not going to go "balls out" on the nursey until he/she gets here-- but I am an anal planner and would rather do stuff sooner rather than later, so I don't get stressed out-- which WILL happen.

Re: When do you start getting ready??

I'm a nervous nelly and a worry wort

I refused to acknowledge that the possiblity was strong that I'd keep this baby until at least 25weeks..

I just kept saying "I don't want to do (this or that) then lose the baby..."

So now I'm 29weeks and JUST this last weekend we painted, the weekend before we reorganized. So I waited a long time.

Even now.. I am almost afraid of that room I painted with the crib in it.. I don't know what I'd do if the baby doesn't come now.. I couldn't bear to be in that room... Chat Icon

I dunno, I rather expect the worst and hope for the best I guess *shrug*

I really really hope it works out for my baby girl... I almost *need* her here now, if that makes sense.

Re: When do you start getting ready??

Im a planner. I always have been- its just in my blood, I guess. I want everything done before the baby arrives & before I start to really get run down. I'm almost 8 months along. My nursery is painted and the furniture is scheduled to be delivered tomorrow. I'm going to start putting away all the stuff I got from my shower this past weekend into drawers- start washing all the linens & clothes & prepare as much as I possibly can WHILE I can.

I want nothing left on my to do list by the time I'm ready to give birth. Will this happen? Who knows? I really do hope so.

The only thing I can say is that I'm sure we aren't going to feel any better then we do today. As we get further along in our pregnancies, doing normal things will only get harder & harder. Try to get as much done now as you can- It will only make life easier once the baby arrives.

Re: When do you start getting ready??

I'm a planner. I've already started cleaning out the nursery's closet. We are having a massive garage sale the weekend after July 4th at my FBIL's house. We are actually bringing some furniture, etc. I call it "make room for baby sale".

I want to be able to start setting up the nursery about mid-November, therefore everything needs to get outta there by September so we can:
-paint
-change closet doors
-clean carpets

Re: When do you start getting ready??

DH and I are Jewish too and somewhat on the superstitious side. However, we do recognize that we will need to have purchased certain items ahead of time and make some preparations. I am not having a shower (also b/c it is typically not a Jewish custom) so we had to buy some things on our own - NECESSARY things.

We are 80% done cleaning out the room that will be Ed-lie's nursery. IF our landlord allows us to paint, we will and we will clean the carpet as well. But under no circumstances will the room resemble a "nursery" in any way until she comes home.

Our furniture has been purchased and should be arriving soon to remain in storage until we call for delivery and assembly on the day she is born. It may be set when we get home, it may not. One day or two won't make a difference. The glider and ottoman are already here.

The bedding is ordered and was shipped. It will remain at my sister's house with many other things already purchased.

We have a layette chosen from Denny's and it will stay there until I deliver - my sisters will pick it up and wash it along with all of the other clothing that has been purchased. Everything is in bags with receipts.

I am also a big planner. I would love to be able to set up a nursery and have it all ready when i come home. It isn't my tradition and frankly until i hold my daughter in my arms, I will not feel secure enough to set it up. The child will not know the difference. And with two sisters, a MIL and 3 SILs, I highly doubt it will take more than a day to get everything together the way it needs to be.

Some people may feel that my superstitions are obsessive and morbid, but you truly have to know my family background and history to understand why I feel the way i do. It has nothing to do with my previous pregnancy losses.

With my DS we started getting ready 3 months before I was due. With this pregnancy we will start getting ready in July which is 4 moths before my due date.

Re: When do you start getting ready??

i am jewish but not at all superstitious. we didn't really have a choice deciding when we would "get ready" b/c we knew we would be moving in the end of june/beginning of july. we just started to move on monday, and so all we have done is painted the baby's room. we are waiting till after the shower to buy the furniture in case someone is generous Chat Icon the baby will be in our room in a bassinet the first few months so i am not worried about decorating ASAP.
