When friends divorce...
I found out while on vacation that a friend of mine who got married a year before me is getting divorced, just a few months shy of their 3rd anniversary.
She and I were PG at the same time (due a month apart) so she has a daughter the same age as my son. She found out that her DH (disgusting husband in this case) was cheating on her the entire time she was PG! She confronted him and then gave him a 2nd chance and he continued to cheat so then she filed for divorce.
I think that she did the best thing but the news of them getting divorced just hit me like a ton of bricks! I don't know why but it made me so sad. They are the first couple I know from "our group" that are getting divorced... and I am just like wow.
Has anyone else had a friend that got married around the same time as you get divorced?

We do. It was tough because they had dated for over a decade before they got married. So friends of 10+ years had to figure out who got "custody" of them.

Yeah that's got to be even tougher because of that. My friends were also dating for about 8 years before they got married. But I've always been close with her not him, so that wasn't an issue.

Re: When friends divorce...
Sad. We have a story as well..
We just went to a wedding at the end of Februrary and the couple is divorcing.
The husband and DH went to high school together. About ten years ago he moved to FL. About four years ago he met a woman... only about 20 years old... don't flame me about the age, you will see why in a minute. They moved in together pretty quickly but we didn't question it. We honestly, never really saw them together.
Well, we attend the wedding, nice. Nothing strange happened... they are off to Hawaii to honeymoon.
She's very young, 23 I think, and just started the police academy. Well, I guess she never had much of a "bar/clubbing" scene before she got married (he husband is 38) and is now out with the other cadets every night and feels like she missed out.
DH's friend called yesterday (he has only told DH so far... DH was married once before and knows he would understand) and said that when confronted about going to therapy his wife recently said... "I'm sorry, I have no time to go to therapy. I have a lot of things going on right now that need my attention." As if a marriage is not that important
DH told him to get a lawyer asap because she is quite a "Daddy's girl" and considering she has decided she doesn't want to be married anymore and they were only married 4 months before things turned, she really should be entitled to nothing. He also supported her for three years while she was in school. She contrinuted nothing.
This is why IMO, I firmly believe that no one should get married until they have their "fun" and are established in their careers. This girl, yes, i said girl, was no way mature enough to be married.
So sorry for your friend.

That's a shame what that girl is doing...to treat marriage that way.

Yeah, sorry to hijack Sandra. I am so sorry for your friend. It must be really jarring when it happens to someone you are close to and went through so many things together with.
Barb, I can only tell DH what to say to him as I've only met him three times. He's a great, funny, intelligent guy... accountant who owns his own house. I think he now knows that there is no hope after a comment like that. We are trying to get him to come up here and hang with DH for a weekend but he doesn't want to until she's out and the locks are changed... can't blame him there.
It's sad too because DH's first wife was a jerk-ette too and DH was too nice to her. He even said to his friend that if he had to do it all over again he wouldn't have gotten a lawyer right away and sued for divorce immediately... not waited the year.
And to think, I just burned a CD of their wedding pics

Re: When friends divorce...
Yeah, a good friend who got married 6 months before me has been separated from her husband since Jan. She is in the process of filing for a divorce now. He turned out to be an abusive (verbal and physical), manipulative jerk. Luckily they didn't have any children.
