When should I tell my new job...
When should I tell my new job that I'm pregnant??
I accpeted a new job when I was 8wks..last week and when I start I'll just be 11wks.
At what point do you think I should disclose my pregnancy to them?
Also would you tell them your true weeks or shorten it by a week or two?
I was torn about taking the job because I'm preggo but then so many ladies on LIF gave me the courage to take it...and honestly it is the best decision. Now I'm worrying about when to tell the new place...and if they'll hate me.

Re: When should I tell my new job...
Unless they NEEDED to know (like you were doing physical work or strenous hours) I don't think I would tell them until I started popping a bit.

Re: When should I tell my new job...
i voted 16 weeks... i do agree that you dont NEED to tell them... but as a courtesy i would tell them at around 16 weeks...
only because you took the job while you were pregnant and im sure they didnt forsee you needing time any time soon... id rather give them as much notice as you can so that they dont have any ill feelings about the situation... jmo

I just say before you start showing.
You never know when that could be.
But personally for me I'd like to tell before they start looking at me and speculating.

ITA with Kerri ... you don't want to spark any rumors ... you don't want them to know before you tell them!

Re: When should I tell my new job...
Kathy- I accepted a job & started in mid-July, 2009. By mid/late August- I'm "sick". Didn't realize I was PG! Pretty much GOT pregnant the week I started the job! oopps. I waited until 16/17 weeks to tell them. No one had any clue and I only told them bc I had lots of appts coming up that I needed to leave early/come in late for. No one was mad at me or felt deceived. They were all actually very happy for me and very supportive throughout the pregnancy.
I don't think you owe them anything, and I'd tell them around 16 weeks..unless you're obviously showing before then!

Re: When should I tell my new job...
I would tell your boss directly around 12 weeks but not announce anything publicly until a week or two after that

Re: When should I tell my new job...
I would wait until at least 16 weeks. That way you have the next 8 weeks to prove that they made the right choice by hiring you before you tell them. If you tell your boss to early, she/he may not look at your true performance at work, and judge you based on your pregnancy.
If they question why you waited to tell them, I would act like you kept it a secret from everyone until you felt comfortable telling.

Re: When should I tell my new job...
Thanks ladies
I'm thinking I'll do it somewhere betwqeen 14-16 weeks. This way I can prove myself as PP said and I can give them enough time to know I'll need to take time off for leave.
I won't get maternity leave because I'm not their a year so much of my leave will be unpaid.
