When the dry cleaner messes up?

What happens?

I dropped off about $300 worth of dry cleaning two weeks ago and picked it up last night.

I went through the clothes, and one of my sweaters that USED to be cream w/red dots is now cream w/gray dots.

I gave it back to the dry cleaner, and since they "outsource" their work, she told me she'd be in touch.

I know that there's no way of restoring the original color, but what happens in cases like this?

usually they will give you some kind of $$$.

Years ago when I was thin, I dropped off a gorgeous white Banana Republic coat and they shrunk it. I didnt complain, as angry as I was because I didnt think anything could be done about it.

honestly, nothing much- at least they didn't do much when they ruined my brand new Ann Taylor Capris! They even wanted to charge me for the dry cleaning and I laughed in his face- I was so mad- all they did was not charge me the $5.00 it was to dry clean them! I am still bitter about this!

years ago - i had a white sweater with sewn in flowers on the shoulders. brought it to the dry cleaner and the sweater turned blue. the dry cleaner claimed it had always been that color. i was peeved. i was still in hs at that time and the dry cleaner didn't even listen to my mother. luckily - i had gotten it for xmas and she knew we had a photo. so we got it and returned. well... he then blamed it on the manufacturer of the sweater. we didn't get anyting back AT ALL. but, no one in my family has ever gone back to that dry cleaner since. not once.

can you still this still makes me mad?

Like the above posters said, you can probably only expect a refund of what you paid to have it cleaned.

My worst dry cleaning experience was the time I borrowed a suit from my mother and the dry cleaners "lost" the jacket and "accidentally" replaced it with a ratty brown cotton turtleneck shirt owned by "a pregnant woman who just had a baby and can't come back to bring your jacket."

I bought my mother a new suit and followed up from time to time until I saw one of the dry cleaning workers wearing my mother's jacket!


This was about 10 years ago.

I still boycott that dry cleaners. FM if anyone's in Commack and wants to know which one.

Oh my gosh it sounds like they bleached it That is terrible. Do you have any pics of you wearing it or the receipt?
