When to buy stuff

We are scheduled to close on December 8 (on or about). We are moving from the city to the 'burbs so we really don't have too much stuff. When do we buy furniture and stuff? I am so afraid to buy too much in case the deal falls through or gets delayed. What do I do with everything?
What did you all do? The house is in move-in condition so we don't have too much to do other than pack and move in! A little touch up paint here and there but that is it.
Bloomie's was having a crazy sale this weekend so we already bought towels for 2 of the bathrooms. We don't even have storage space for that so we left it in the trunck of the car! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: When to buy stuff

We too did not buy furnature until we closed on the house. I went looking and found stuff. We just bought our leather couch and recliner from Philip Engle a week after we closed and it will not be here for 3 months. I guess if you are getting stuff that is in stock, I would wait, but now that I know how long everything takes for custom, I wish we got it sooner.

I would order whenever you are 100% sure the deal will come through...you can always delay shipping until after closing. But it seems furniture can take a few weeks to be delivered so it might work out fine.

Thank you both for your replys. I am really torn about this. I don't want to live in an empty house but then again, like I said, I don't want to be stuck with all this furniture either. We are 100% and the owners want out but until we close, we aren't 100% (does that make sense?). Anything can happen!

I understand what you mean. We were in the same boat. Both parties wanted to complete the deal, but until it is done, problems can crop up.

I would try to get a lay out of the place and pick stuff out. Figure out your color pallate and the size and shape of pieces you like and want. It will make the ordering easier once you actually have the place.

This is exactly what we are doing now. We went to the house again on Saturday to get a better idea of what we will need. We had only seen it once before our offer was accepted so we wanted to check it out again.
Yup, it's the same house! Chat Icon Chat Icon
