when to defrost top of cake? (not recipe related)

we have the top of our wedding cake in our freezer.
we want to eat it on sunday, should i start defrosting it today or tomorrow?

I took mine out the freezer and put it in to the fridge on a friday and it was perfect by sunday

I agree, that's what we did. I defrosted in the fridge first and then took it out of the fridge a couple of hours before we wanted to eat it.
