When we talk about back to normal what are you really saying? Stores are open, restaurants are open, places we go to are open. Yes, schools have been closed but the school year is just starting. I have been out to eat multiple times now. Both indoor and out, and there has never been a wait , even with a 25 or 33% capacity limit. I guess I am not really sure what people are asking for? No masks? If its allowing these things to be open and stopping the spread then why not?
People are having weddings and parties, etc.

I hear people complaining about all this doom and gloom but its a lot of the times from people who want things to "go back to normal". Like life is ending because they have to wear a mask.

do I want to wear masks forever no!! But i want to be able to do things.

have a party for my kids, got trick o treating since some are really saying they arent doing it this year, go to concerts, have sports for kids and professional etc.

you know actually being able to do things. we are no where near any kind of normal at all!

Who is stopping you from throwing a party for your kid? Noone but you. Throw the party.

Who will come?

You're missing the point of everyone's frustration with this. We're all trapped in this bizarre world where nobody wants to go near anyone.

Well not sure what exactly you are expecting? Until people start doing it. Its never going to get back to normal. Noone is stopping anyone from throwing a birthday party or BBQ or whatever. We know the virus isn't disappearing anytime soon. So what exactly are you expecting? You can't blame this on the Govt. If people don't show up or decline or whatever then its because they are still scared . You can't fault people.

Still didnt answer my question. where can I throw the party?

Please tell me where. My house is not an option. So please let me know if I cant have it at my house where should i be throwing this party?

Also as previous poster stated this is not about me outdoing anyone! If I could have my kids parties at home I would but I cant.

People who share the same beliefs as you. People that want to return to the way things were pre-COVID now. Nothing is stopping you from throwing a party. You can't call it "New normal" or "Old normal" anymore.

Frankly this will be a lifetime game changer like 9-11 was. Society will never be like it was pre-COVID. You will see people voluntarily wearing masks regardless of what the CDC says (like going to the supermarket). People in Asian countries have been wearing masks for years. It is what it is.

I just hope it gets to the point where we have enough immunity that we can make our own mask wearing decisions and be able to do things like travel, eat indoors, go to events with fans/spectators, etc.

I am surprised there isn't more talk about two school districts cancelling in person learning at the last minute.

https://patch.com/new-york/mineola/li-school-districts-postpone-person-learning

regarding the 2 school district closing. For Carl Place most of the kids that tested positive are asymptomatic . So if they werent forced to be tested they wold have never known just like most people that are asymptomatic.

So I am not saying the answer shouldnt be we shouldnt test but really if its never going away and people have it will never know they have it how are we are ever supposed to move on?

its basically saying we can never go back to normal? Again I just dont see that being the case. Maybe the vaccine is the answer fine. lets get out and the people that want it take it and we can all go back to an actual real normal way of living

I want people to stop being afraid of one another and running the other direction so they "don't catch something".

Life right now is FAR from normal. This is some weird alternate "normal" that SUCKS. School is weird. Kids activities are weird. People's interactions are weird. Being out in public is weird. Life is just plain weird.

These two things right here are what I have the hardest time with. People looking at each other with fear and distrust. Even young, perfectly healthy people are terrified of being around other human beings. Everyone acts so unbelievably weird around each other.

Life is definitely not what we considered normal pre-Covid. The masks and social distancing do put a toll on your mental health.

I do think though that some things that we considered normal, maybe really weren't normal. As an example, kids birthdays. You can still have a party. Have it with a few of your close friends. There is no need to have $1000 parties and try to out do your friends. It is just simpler. That is not a bad thing. Same with weddings, communions, etc. Just have smaller parties. The last 20 years everything has just got bigger and bigger and more elaborate, and for what. Covid made families slow down and not constantly run around and learn to enjoy (or not enjoy lol) being together, again I don't think this is a bad thing. Children are socializing outside instead of glued to their video games if they want to hang out.

While I do want the masks to go way eventually, I think this time really gave me the opportunity to put my priorities in check and to stop trying to keep up with the Jones.

I agree, it's not a bad thing to live more simply BUT part of living NORMALLY is having the option to throw a big wedding or an over the top birthday party if you so desire. It might be too much for YOU but being told we CANNOT under any circumstances have get togethers that are over 50 people is obviously limiting to our lives. It's not normal.

I enjoyed the time with my family as I am sure most did BUT I don't think being locked down together for months is healthy overall. Life requires a better balance. It's emotionally and socially healthy to take a break from each other and go to work, do your own thing, go to school, go on a play date, participate in sports or other activities and those are all things that have been missing for months.

I firmly believe that none of this is sustainable and at some point people will have had enough and we'll see a return to pre-COVID normal. There will always be people that won't ever feel comfortable but I think those people will fall in the minority, the rest of us just want to get back on with life. Normal life.

People have become so unfriendly and so afraid of one another. I find it very depressing, I love to talk to everyone when I am out and I am always smiling at people. The masks and social distancing really inhibit that normal human instinct to connect. Chat Icon

It is obvious you're cool with this "new normal". That is fine, to each his own, but realize that MOST people aren't and won't really get where you are coming from when you keep saying, "what can't you do" OR "everything is mostly back to normal".

Nothing about 2020 is normal. Literally nothing.

I am being as ridiculous as you complaining how people should just be over it so you can throw a birthday party for your child because your wants and needs are more important than someone who is seriously scared of something that can potentially kill them.

Don't bother banging your head against the wall with this one. I agree with you, it's ridiculous to have a kids party at a catering hall.

I too miss planning a birthday party for my kids at fun places like bounce houses, craft centers, Chuck E Cheese, roller skating rinks and everywhere else that is fun for kids. It's sad they are missing out, they only get so many years to enjoy parties with their friends.

Then you can stay home inside your 4 walls FOREVER. Plenty of people have NO desire to continue life like this and refuse to spend the rest of their years living in fear.

Life is risk. A million things can kill you whether that be COVID or driving a car or hiking a mountain. But as humans we take those risks in order to live life. So again, if you're scared sh!tless to ever get back to a normal way of life again that's fine, stay shuttered and isolated. But cut your ridiculous attitude that somehow it's selfish of people to want their lives back.

There are multiple kids play places by me where you can rent out the facility.

You could host it at a restaurant.

You could talk to a pizza place about hosting there.

You’re just being stubborn, and there’s easy answers to your questions. I’ve been invited to multiple parties this summer. Granted, we turned them all down, but the invites were still there.

I am being as ridiculous as you complaining how people should just be over it so you can throw a birthday party for your child because your wants and needs are more important than someone who is seriously scared of something that can potentially kill them.

I am not sitting in my house scared shitless. I have been out. I have been to the stores regularly and to restaurants. i have been to the beach. I'm not sitting online ******** and moaning because I can't go to Disneyworld this year or that I can't go to concerts. I am out living my life getting together with family and friends. We have had people at our home. Sorry to say but life is much more than trips to Disneywotld and cruises.

There are plenty of catering halls on LI.

What am I doing at a catering hall for 7 and 10 year Old birthday parties. I want to have kids party but not an adult party. I’m not looking it have it a fancy catering hall Chat Icon

Plenty of space to set up games and activities.

are you really trying to proof a point that this is normal by telling me to seriously call catering hall that charge insane amount of money per person so i can have my kids birthday party that will have a bunch of 7 and 10 year olds???

And you really think this is normal and thats what I should be doing???

you find nothing wrong with this???

If someone is seriously scared of something that can potentially kill them, they are more than welcome to stay home. It's a CHOICE.
And what people are saying about going back to normal life at some point- that should be a choice as well. (once the numbers dictate it is safe to do so). Right now there isn't much choice for those who want to do normal things like this poster's kid's birthday party at a kid place. Or a vacation. Or a wedding of more than 50.
Saying these limits should be the new normal forever is taking away choice from those who choose not to live in constant fear of dying.

I am not being stubborn at all. I am being serious I dont know of any place open but if you do then please list them!!

As far as i know most places are closed.

I dont want it at a restaurant I am not looking for an adult party I am looking for a kids party for kids to have fun!

again though if places are open I kindly ask you to list them and i will start looking into them!

I am not complaining at all!!! Where did I complain??

I was making it a point that things are not normal yet! you may want to believe they are and accept that but I dont. that's not complaining.

I just said that I fully believe that we will get back to normal and my hope is by 2021!!

So there is an art studio near me that resumed doing kid's birthday parties with the following changes:

Please note new format due to COVID-19. We can only hold 12 children, 2 per table. Birthday child parents are permitted inside but guests parents may only drop off at the door. All children must have their temperatures taken before entering. Everyone must wear a mask upon entering. Children may remove masks when they are seated but must put back on any time they get up from table. Hand sanitizer is available all around the studio. Children must wash hands prior to eating. We will sing for the birthday child but no blowing out candles.

Not sure where you are located, but this place is in Sayville.
Still not the same of course, but at least it's out of the house. Chat Icon

Sorry to say but life is about all different kinds of experiences and social interactions and just because you don't give a sh!t about taking a vacation or a cruise doesn't mean that life experience isn't important to someone else. Or more importantly, necessary to someone's livelihood.

Step outside of your self righteous, indignant little bubble of judgement and just try understanding that what constitutes a good, happy, joyful, fulfilling life will be different for everyone. For some it's concerts, or travel, or throwing parties, or spending time with family, or going to the movies, or hiking or any of the 80,000 other activities that make people happy and enjoy their lives.

There is a whole world of differences and experiences beyond what YOU think are important and MOST everyone wants a normal life back where we can make the choices that best fit our lives and that make us happy.

When will we go back to

You cannot choose to go back to normal during a pandemic. The pandemic chooses for you. If there's another outbreak, everything will shut down again. More people could get sick and the economy could further suffer because of your kid's party or you not having to wear a mask at Disney (which takes the cake, IMO).

Also, this obsession some of you have with hugging people is super creepy. I hug my kid and my DH. Do you normally hug strangers? Bizarre.

thanks Sayville is too far but I will look for paint places closer to me. The limit things sucks though. We usually have around 25 kids (we invite more but luckily most say no). I am the parent who feels bad leaving anyone out so I invite the whole class, plus outside class friends, and family I guess this is the year I will have to suck it up and just have them choose certain people and not feel bad about it!

Yes definitely check around for places like that. It was nice to see they are back to at least some kind of kid's party.
As far as the guest list, I hear you. But like you said, now you can chose their closest friends and not feel bad. And it saves money. Chat Icon

I think what we're seeing is people settling into this "new normal" and becoming okay with a life that is limited in both social interactions and human experiences.

As for masks, they are a temporary solution to a problem which is hopefully short term. I am sure most people, including myself, have no desire for masks to be some new way of life permanently.

Hugging is creepy? That is literally the strangest comment I've ever read. Chat Icon There is no obsession with hugging however, craving human interaction and a desire to be near or even touch others is not weird, that's normal. I hug friends that I haven't seen in a while, I hug my parents still, I use to kiss people I was friends with on the cheek and shake hands with strangers. ALL normal.

Staying 6ft away from people and wearing a mask isn't normal. Or healthy.

Exactly this!
