When will you stop?

I was reading the thread about how long all of us have been trying and I don't mean to bring anyone down but I was just wondering if anyone has thought about when enough is enough and if necessary they will look into other options to becoming parents.

I am only starting the medical part of this journey (I have an appt with RE tomorrow) so I really don't know how to answer my own question - I would like to say that I can continue TTC for as long as I can physically, emotionally and financially

That is my answer too...

Dh says if this IVF doesn't work, we will try once more and if that doesn't work, we must sit down and have a long talk...

Re: When will you stop?

We haven't come to that stage yet, but I meet with the RE on 6/30 and we'll go from there. It's seemed like a lifetime of TTC already and it's not been quite a year.

I guess we'll decide where we go after the RE meeting!

Re: When will you stop?

I'm just starting but I want to send Chat Icon 's out to all of the girls who are out there who might feel like they are at this step.

BTW, I do know of at least two women sho once they decided to adopt both conceived on their own. Both went through with the adoptions as well so their children are less than 6 months apart. It confused people who don't know.

I don't know....my insurance has covered everything so far...and they cover IUI, but not IVF. So...if the IUI doesn't work, I'm not sure where we go from there. I am going for my second IUI this week.

Re: When will you stop?

Im kinda early in the game, but I could not do this every month for years like some women do.
On another message board there is a women who has been trying for 13 years..I COULD not do that. I would love since have looked into adopting.

I would try this hard( temping, opk's etc) for about 3 years , maybe a little longer...

I know my cousin had 7 unsuccessful IVF's...Got PG on her 8th ( none covered Chat Icon by insurance) ...had a girl and said ok, one baby was enough....

2 years later out of the blue she got PG on her own, no help nothing. Her son is 2 now..

Re: When will you stop?

I am only going through the inital steps of TTC... so I can hardly complain about my TTC issues really. So many of you ladies have been through a LOT more than I have, not to mention have been TTC a lot longer as well .. so I will not even dare to put myself in your shoes.

Asking me right now a little less than 1 year into this - well I do still feel confident enough about my chances of conceiving. Even though the road has been a bit rocky so far, I know that I want to keep trying as long as my doctors think is reasoanble. BUT I cannot truly tell you "when I will say enough is enough" until I've journeyed down this road a bit longer...

I can say, however, that at any point if I see that the TTC process is taking a huge toll on my marriage, I will make the concious decision to stop. Unfortunately I've seen couples break up over this issue, and it would break my heart if I ever allowed that to happen to me and my husband. Without him, none of this would matter to me anyhow... I'd never want to risk losing him or what we have because I allowed trying to have a child take over our lives to an extreme degree

Funny how something like this puts priorities in order. I think each person's enough is different. TTC is so emotionally draining, but I guess its one day at a time.

Re: When will you stop?

DH & I are going through this exact question right now bc I was just diagnosed and our insurance does not cover IVF, which is my only option to conceive naturally right now. We are trying to decide if we can face the financial and emotional stresses that come along with IVF or if we are going to adopt. After Thursday's appt with my RE, I'm hoping we can figure some things out. I am very lucky to have such a supportive husband.

Re: When will you stop?

I think we will keep going until the insurance runs out. That means no IVF for us right nowChat Icon ...plus I am older and probably don't have a big window of time to conceive in.

Re: When will you stop?

I agree with most everything that has already been said. I think when it starts to take a toll on your marriage, you should sit down and make a decision together how far you are really going to let this go. I, like Felicia, are in the early stages and I still hope and pray I have a chance to conceive naturally so we will see. But as others have said...its a sad realization but obviously finances and insurance play such a huge part in the entire ttc issue. Thank goodness our insurance covers most everything except for ivf so if it comes down to that, I am not sure how far we will be able to take it. In my opinion, I will try not to let it over take my entire life either. I dont ever want to lose sight of how much we want a child to enhance our lives. I dont want it to be a mission that has to be conquered. I mean in a way thats of course what it feels like to a certain degree but I want to always be able to see the whole picture.

Hopefully we will all get our wishes soon...we so deserve it!
