When you are a guest in someones home

What do you normally do before you leave? We have a spare bedroom/bathroom and whenever anyone on my DH's side comes they never take the sheets off or ask where to put the towels. They just leave the towels on the floor as if it is a hotel.

When anyone from my family comes, they take the sheets off, wash all towels and put everything back on the bed. To me, this is the proper way to be a guest.

I think DH's family is clueless, but it drives me nuts. Do I just let it go??

Maybe it's just me but I never expect my guests to take the sheets off of the bed. Once the guests leave I usually do a thorough cleaning of the room anyway. So I take the sheets off throw them in the wash and clean the room.

The towel thing would probably aggravate me a little but only because we have a hamper in the bathroom for that reason.

Re: When you are a guest in someones home

When we're staying at someone house for a few days, we make the bed everyday. Most of the time when we're ready to leave the host says not to bother making the bed and leave the towels in the bathroom; they'll wash everything later on. We don't leave the towels on the floor. We put them on the towel rack or door hook.

I think it is the towels on the floor bit that really eats away at me! I don't remember placing a sign in the bathroom that said "If you want the towels replaced, please place on the floor." Chat Icon Thanks

Re: When you are a guest in someones home

whenever staying as a guests in someone's house, I always make sure our room is neat while we are there. When the time comes to leave, I usually ask if they want me to strip the bed down & 9 out of 10, they say no, just leave it as they will do a cleaning when we leave. As for towels, I make sure I put them in the hamper or wherever they put their laundry

I usually hang the towels back up (I figure this is better than leaving them getting moldy and smelly in a hamper if they aren't doing laundry right away), but I've never stripped the bed. I actually try to remake it to look all nice.

I leave it the way I find it. I would never leave the bed undone or towels out of place. That would bug me if it was done to me.

Ditto this. I don't put my own towels that are wet into the laundry, so I wouldn't put wet towels of my hosts into the laundry. I hang them back up.

I never strip a bed either - I will make it though every day I'm there.

Re: When you are a guest in someones home

When ever i'm a guest at somesones house. I always ask them what they would like me to do with the sheets and the towels.

They may not want to do laundry at the moment we leave the house, and i would always make the bed so there spare room wouldn't be mess when we left.

I usually make the bed and put the towels on the bed. It would never cross my mind to take the sheets off the bed.

I usually do the same. If its family then I will strip the bed and do the laundry too.

Before I leave I always make sure the room is tidy and the bed is made and I always ask what they would like me to do with my towels. I never take the sheets off the bed though... Never really thought about it.

We clean up after ourselves so it's as if we were never there. We ask our host if they want the bed stripped. If not, we just make the bed.

With my IL's, we strip the bed because I know she'll do it the second we leave.

I take the sheets off and if I'm at my il's (house sitting), I wash the sheets and towels. I will wipe down the bathroom (not clean, but wipe down).
